I once made a Beetroot Cake for Mr "M" knowing he doesn't like beetroot (unless pickled ... the beetroot that is, not Mr "M"). He scoffed the lot! Mainly because he thought he was eating a standard chocolate cake :heehee:

There is a food store I go to, where I observe some young couples shopping together. It is quiet humorous to have one of them show the other a can of soup before putting it into the basket. And then there is the older gent who just looks drugged following around his wife as he moves the cart. And of course the mom with her baby, as she yells at it for grabbing stuff off the sides. Like ---she expects the child to just sit there ---put something in its hands already. Then you over hear a person discuss with the other if they should get garlic salt, versus garlic powder. SMH. Shopping alone is fine with me, I get to sneak a peek at other lives for some humor for my day.

No @shiney as the old Bosch one is eighteen years old and had started playing up with parts of the fridge getting quiet hot inside and when Mr Kandy pulled it away from the wall ready for the new one I touched the motor on the outside and it was red hot and I burnt my finger:yikes: so as it is in a dangerous condition we are taking it to the tip.

I would hate to have it on my conscience that I let someone else have it only for there to be a fire like that in that Grenfell disaster so it is going for recycling even if we have to saw it up to get it to the tip:biggrin:

"rushing around the shop returning each time with an armload of what he wanted, dumped it in the cart and continued on his foray."

That's me that is. I hate shopping. The sooner we can get home the better. I don't mind as much if I intend to cook something creative and am looking for ingredients.

now to the cereal discussion. I buy natural cereal, for the quick cold bowl in the morning type. Husband will say complain and say--- the same stuff. I tell him you go look, there is a whole row of stuff to select find what you WANT.

              @Jack Sparrow

I'm pleased I cleared that up for you OK. :blue thumb: :snorky:

Just to make things simple

An Imperial pint is 20 Imperial ounces
An American pint is 16 Imperial ounces
That's why their gallon is smaller than ours (remember that when they talk about miles or cost per gallon).
So they have 16 ounces to a pint and 16 ounces to a pound. They obviously wanted to standardise (or standardize) them.

In Imperial a hundredweight is 112lbs (now known as a long hundredweight)
In American a hundredweight is 100lbs (now known as a short hundredweight)

Then, of course, we come to the 'ton'
The Imperial ton is 20 hundredweight (2240lbs) - now know as the long ton
The American ton is also 20 (U.S.) hundredweight (2000lbs) now known as the short ton
Then, of course, we get the Metric ton (which is 2204lbs) now known as the tonne
Or all of them are collectively know as 'Heavy' :loll:

I hope you're taking all of this into your memory :heehee:

Degrees, apart from academic, can be referring to the temperature (Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin etc.) or to distance measured around the Earth (also known as Terra - land in Latin)

Minutes can be sixty seconds or a sixtieth of a degree in land measurement

A second can be a sixtieth of a minute (as above) or a 'Light' second which is the speed that light travels in a second.

Unfortunately, this can become confusing  because the speed of light isn't affected by gravity although some people think it is. Gravity can bend light (gravitational lensing) or change the frequency of it (gravitational redshift). Either read Einstein's General Relativity or ask @ARMANDII :rasp:

And, of course, a sixtieth of a second is known as Jiffy @Jiffy

Just ask me - and I can bore the pants of you. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:[/user]

Now, I'll admit I'm not very good with technology, it seems that to me that many devices which were once simple to operate have now become baffling in their complexity.

But the prize for 'most baffling and frustrating' appliance in our house (in my opinion), has to go to the infernal 'smart' TV acquired by Mrs Trunky a few months ago.

When you switch it on, it takes about a week (I may be exaggerating here, but only slightly) to even get started. A simple thing such as changing channels (if you can find them) seems to baffle it so much it has to think about for a while before it performs the operation.

At various intervals during the process it will ask you a series of baffling questions, most of which mean nothing to me.

Just a few minutes ago, I settled down in the vain and optimistic hope that I would be able to watch a particular programme on 'catch up', whereupon it immediately began a series of diversionary tactics to prevent me from even finding, let alone viewing said programme.

Mrs Trunky valiantly tried to guide me through the process, but after a couple of minutes I found I was losing the will to live and gave up in despair. :gaah:

I'm now happily installed in another room, with Marc Riley on the radio and GC on the laptop.
I'll probably read a book later. Keep it simple I say.

As I haven't been grocery shopping for a while for reasons previously mentioned, we used to laugh at families shopping ... being in a touristy area, the entire family goes shopping. Now a box of Corn Flakes is a box of Corn Flakes wherever you are so why do the entire family plus cart have to block the aisle for all to attempt to read out loud the Portuguese version of the box?:rolleyespink::hate-shocked::whistle::wallbanging::runforhills:

It is also the same that for unknown reasons here they all walk in the street xxx many abreast ... I don't remember doing that in the UK. :what: :gaah:

@Trunky Our catch up tv is through a BT top box. You have to coordinate the 2 devices to get it to work. My wife struggles with it. My 6 year old grandchildren however ...

@ARMANDII I vaguely recall solving simultaneous equations using the inverse of a 2 x2 matrix. It's not something I've had to use very often.
