See how "programmed" they are? :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
    My response would have been:
"Medium it is then, Sir, coming right up!" (How difficult is that?)

It's better to have loved and lost a short person then to never have loved a tall.

        :dunno:

 If you've never loved a tall ... you wouldn't know any different!
If you've loved and lost a (short) person ... that would hurt!

Going to the cinema? This is something I've tried to look into. In our house we go to the pictures. It's before my time but I thought early cinemas were called picture houses. When and why did cinema come to be the common term used?

When I was young it was going to the 'flicks' (the pictures used to flicker). When I was working out in S. Africa 55 years ago it was the Bioscope.

Cinema is short for Cinematograph, which was the machine that projected the pictures onto the screen.

We just call it "going to the show" - for movies or "play" for a live play or opera for an opera .. etc

Most definitely non-U for me, and glad to be so, not least as it puts me on a completely different standing to that self-appointed, self-serving, self-righteous little shhhhh.......

I would NEVER tire of punching that bloke.

I tend to use more "common" words than things in the Non-U Category, so goodness knows what that makes me... pleb or serf class perhaps?! :hapydancsmil:

Very very true! Not paying enough attention to what is being written by my own brain! (it is also called a slight hangover!).

Going to carry on making it worse with some more common people now too. Cheers! :)

Going to a show here is generally a musical theatre production. Les Miserables, cats, that sort of thing. It could also be more localised like a school or drama society. Christmas spectaculars would also be regarded as shows.

Musical theatre is my favourite kind of entertainment. You can't beat it. A friend of ours is part of th local operatic society. They do one show a year and they have all been top notch.

Who ever dreamed that lot up is a pregnant fish.
How you talk depends a lot on where you come from.
It just had to be the BBC, didn't it, trying to pigeon hole people again
Even the worst talker on the BBC always says Plarstic and Glarsgow, I dont think you would get a job with them if you didn't.
Dont get me on the BBC and centimeters, they can poke them.
