It is not really about being "tender"......down here that is not a problem but I still protect. Seedlings have to cope with snow, hail, storms and even slugs n snails are up and about during the mild periods. Seedlings will be bigger, stronger and make better, earlier flowering plants I think if grown indoors :)
However, whatever method chosen I hope everyone has great success.:)
Feedback is so important folks ...it's how we all learn :)

I'll do the half and half planting :blue thumb: My flower bed will really only be ready for my new planting plan next spring . But I will take a couple up to the caravan and plant them out there. Now we do have problems with rabbits on the site, the little monkeys finished my Delosperma succulent in 24 hours ! VB seem to be hard and raspy so not very appetising to bugs bunny I would think ?

There was a time that I would scatter seed all over the garden, and hope for the best. These days (well, just in the last two years) I have managed to plan a bit more. By keeping new cuttings/seedlings to one side - in sheltered places I can decide where they would look best as the rest of the established plants grow in the spring. At the moment there is too much tidying up and cutting back to see to, so it`s hardly a good scene for baby plants.

That's why no one answer fits all ;) and is open to the person asking advice to choose which answer would suit their particular circumstances :rasp::rasp:

Now, simply because my experience does not suit @Verdun & @Tetters experience shouldn't mean that it resorts to ganging up on the forum ;) Let's play nice folks please

No "ganging up" M. Not at all :)
I offer advice simply to help people .....and have no other agenda .....but dont mind if it is ignored. Your advice is as welcome as, hopefully, mine is :)
Harry, I have a feeling a hungry bunny will eat anything if young even VB. Rabbits were a problem here but some judicious netting erected a few years ago has done the trick.....hey presto! No rabbits. In a friend's 6 acre garden the rabbits seem to demolish most everything except hardy geraniums :noidea:.

Trouble is my friend wont see anything hurt any other thing. Refreshing I guess. Wont kill ants ...even a dead plant is saved "it might survive" so a cat is a big no Redwing. :)
