WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

Alana, it would be a shame not to grow hostas. Could not do without them here.
Not convinced about "slug resistant" varieties

 

Beach was cool and misty here too, fog horn bellowing across the water from Holyhead harbour. I love the beach and especially when its like this, it's just so ethereal.

 

@Zigs , You've bean and done it now aint ya !

 

Planted a few spring bulbs, but not as many as I would like. Maybe do a bit more tomorrow. The Fritillaries are soaking overnight, so would like to get some of those in. Need more compost so will have to buy that first thing tomorrow.

I've emptied the sink on the patio with a view to planting a mini woodland display in it. Emptied the sink by the back door, not sure what I'm going to put in it yet, something for spring and then something for summer. Had a go at digging out this brown cactus like thing out front and succeeded in removing about a quarter. Knew it would be a battle .

 

Been outside all day, weeded and edged the front garden, moved a coupe of plants and then weeded the outside border and dug out huge holes of clsy and filled with grit and mpc from old plant pots and transplanted some lavenders. Then dealt with the orrible vine weevils. Will be there again tomorrow finishing off transplanting and dividing.

 

Pretty hot at times esp this afternoon.
Lucius, I know exactly what you mean about the beach. Couldnt live far from the sea....here I can smell it and hear it. Best of both worlds cos the garden is protected by walls and trees . Had a lager outside for a while whilst contemplating a few plant changes......scent from honeysuckle and White Lady Heliotrope were magical

 

What's the variety at the front, @shiney, with the white flowers?

 

I can see it as well as smell and hear it. My house is named Morlais, which in welsh means the voice of the sea. I wasn't drinking lager but I have been contemplating a few changes as well . I want more white flowers. What changes are you planning?

 

Coincidentally, more whites are planned too here lucius. Lots of gaura whirling butterflies already here and they are wonderfully airy, floaty plants but pretty big garden and whites dotted or massed add so much.
Decided white Cleomes to associate with persicaria Dikke Floskes, astilbe shogun to be moved beside hackonechloa and white astrantia Jumble Hole (the most sensational astrantia for me). White Cleomes too with aeonium Zwarzkopf (not sure Got spelling right there).....most winters it survives here with fleece at cold times.
A few changes too with my heleniums......liked them with blue agastaches and shrubby blue delphiniums so will do more of this for next year. Yet another Swan anemone too...this time Dreaming Swan....to front actea Highland Beauty.
Well, lucius, that was what my lager and hot sun persuaded me today.

I grew up in a village next to the seaside town of Cleethorpes. Gosh I miss the seaside so much. Spent every day of school summer holidays going up to the beach. It was and still is lovely.
