WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

I've suddenly become very tired of digging out roots and shovelling gravel

 

Something to remember when you're feeling this way -a friend sent it to me when i feeling the same way due to unpleasant folk

Pretty good day here weatherwise.....warm and sunny this afternoon.
Soaking anemone blanda corms for planting tomorrow.
Ordered another anemone Swan hybrid plus another eucomis Dark Star today.
My 23 year old niece had the keys to her brand new home today......the builders had put a welcome banner across the front door and given her a giant hamper incl champagne and a box of goodies. However, I can see I will have my work cut out with the planting. Minimalistic but quality will be my remit. Low maintenance largely evergreen but scent will feature too.
Ah Lucius I understand ....but you have done so well there. All that work was worth it, right?

Awwww bless you @luciusmaximus your doing great ...your new areas are looking fab and just think it will be all done for next Spring Summer for you to enjoy ....so just ​

 

Love Monty....well I dont actually love him ha ha .....but bit disappointed in some of his tasks on GW this evening. His astrantia, geranium etc., meadow path is quite odd to me. Not convinced about it esp if people try to copy him. Astrantias will not like being mown in summer at all, they flower in summer anway, they need moisture at their roots and will not enjoy the dry, impoverished soil there. Be interesting to see how this one goes
(I talk regularly with local GC manager and local nursery owner and they tell me so many people call after GW to plant exactly what Monty did so he is very influential)

 

That would be nice. Unfortunately it's not a realistic option. For one we can't afford to move. Secondly we have too many family ties. My mum moved to the village to be close to me. There's no way I could move away. There's no way my wife would agree to take her with us. A holiday home by the coast would be nice though. Oh, and a private jet.

On the in law front, my wife's parents have both passed away. Visits from her side of the family are few and far between. They are all generally down to earth and aren't fussed about our occasional lack of good housekeeping. Before they got to know me, they thought I was posh. That just shows how common they must consider themselves. Bless them.

@luciusmaximus I know that feeling very well. There are days when I am up for it and days when I'm not. You just have to do as much as you can on your up for it days. Your garden is looking fab. Keep up the good work. It will all come together in the end.

The gravel bed wasn't difficult to do, just a lot of shovelling and lugging of rocks. I'm sure it will look ok once the flowers have spread a little more. However, I keep changing my mind as to how I want the front garden to look. It doesn't help that I have recently started watching Gardeners World . There is still a lot of work to do out front and then there is the back and side gardens. Often wonder why I bought a house with a garden I didn't like very much - probably because I couldn't afford the houses with gardens I did like

 

After a nice three mile walk yesterday morning and lunch we decided to tackle the Serrula cherry tree that is outgrowing the spot where we first planted it many years ago and besides it sends runners up all over the garden like the front garden one did so we think we might have to get rid of it completely,although it does hide the view of the garage at the bottom of our small garden,but it does tend to drop its leaves everywhere which get quiet slippery on my paving slabs when it rains.

Also woke up with Sciatica problems yesterday morning,one reason why I have been up since 3.30am this morning

PS,I didn’t just take the photos I took the cut branches off of Mr Kandy as he sawed through them and after he cut up the branches with his loppers I got on and bagged them up.

In Fleet in hampshire-we had a very wet garden. Apparently Fleet means Water...:the garden was impossible, as were the unfriendly folk in the cul de sac and in laws lol....well, the female inlaws...

Lol, @shiney I keep forgetting to order this!!! I have looked it up several times to order and have just not done it!!! Arrrrgh!! Right, mr snorks is going to do it on sunday after the inlaws have gone. Your photo shows how great it works!!!

 

Will be picking up a family member from hospital in Cardiff in a few weeks.

Any suggestions for GC's or Nurseries on the route back to London? @Verdun enlighten me
