@Sian so sorry to hear of Harley's passing but at least you were with him and he knew it. He was beautiful ... but you have your lovely sketch of him. It is all so heartbreaking at the end. When our cat Magic Sam (Boo) left us aged 20, I phoned our vet of 13 years on the Saturday who had cared for 8 cats for us for them to come out, they were busy and made an appointment for 3pm on Monday! On Sunday morning I called a vet my Dentist told me about and she was with us within the hour, her partner bringing her as it is difficult to find our house. After a checkup, she put Boo to sleep first then euthanised him. He went peacefully on my lap in the sunshine in our outdoor living room which he loved.. All four of us were in tears.

The pain goes but the memories stay forever. I talk to them in the garden where 5 are buried. One disappeared after 7 years and that is still painful especially since we named him after the hamlet 1km away where we found him in a carrier bag at birth and have to see the town name signs as we enter and exit. We have two still with us. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

    RIP Harley

Oh  @Sian in Belgium I am so, so sorry to hear this news :grphg:
RIP Harley, you beautiful, beautiful, boy!
I do hope Izzy finds her way through her own grieving process, bless her.
I send you, Sian, my sincere condolences and will hold you in my heart as you go through your grieving for Harley. You worked hard to give him a life to enjoy rather than be wary of. :grphg:

Here's a few of my favourites of Boo ... who I first saw just after his birth. His mother Cairo was a white Persian. She had five babies ... four white and one black which she would have nothing to do with. T'other half named him after a black blues guitarist.

Boo on the deck by the Jacaranda ...

          Boo & Jacaranda.JPG

... snoozing in the sunshine ...

          BooStandingAsleep.jpg

Boo loved cushions ... in the outdoor living room where he spent his last moments ...

He disliked England and loved Portugal where he enjoyed life for his last 14 years.

Always in my heart. xx :cat-kittyandsmiley:

It's with great sadness and grief I announce that my beloved Shadow crossed rainbow bridge yesterday after a short but terminal illness.

Shadow came to us by accident, we rescued her on behalf of an acquaintance, she was in a right sorry state. I was ordered NOT to bond with her but nobody told her not to bond with me and so we had 8 marvelous years together, she gave us 9 beautiful puppies and lit up our lives.

So rest in peace "Big Scary Monster" and make sure you're waiting for me when I cross the bridge, until then I shall miss you so much, Love always, Dad.

So sorry for your loss Vince. She was a beautiful dog and you gave her a wonderful life. Thankfully she had a short illness. It is difficult, if not impossible NOT to bond with them.

My Avatar cat, Hoover Van Dyson, appeared out of the orange orchards over three years ago, but for two months only showed himself at brekkie and dinner time then disappeared ... until one day I found him collapsed under a shrub. At the vets he was injected, inspected and otherwise abused and put on a drip immediately and kept overnight. We were told to give him two types of antibiotics twice a day for ten days ... he is not ours we said... but took him home and shut him in our outdoor living room from which he escaped whilst we were out ... but was sitting in our kitchen doormat waiting for our return!

Well, now he is the guard of our Chere Khan (a mischievous girl cat) and property. He will not come in at night till she is in waiting for her on the bench outside the kitchen door ... then immediately behind her through the catflap. He sleeps in our bed (as she does) and follows me around as if he were a dog ... probably guarding me. I always swore I would let him run free ... but he doesn't seem to want to!

Remember all the great times together ... did you not keep one or two of the puppies she gave you?

                          RIP Shadow :doggieshmooze:

We didn't keep any of her puppies but are in regular contact with all but one of their owners. My Avatar is "Arwen" from her first litter. We have Shadows' litter brother "Merlin" and her half brother "Stryder".

Echo undertook his final journey on Tuesday morning and died, peacefully, in my arms under the care of our Vet.
Being a Ragdoll, he never scratched, hissed or spat and spent all his time indoors - apart from last summer when he sneaked out onto the patio and hid behind a planted basket :heehee:
True to his breed, he had puppy like qualities: never liked being alone; would follow you around; liked nothing more than to be included in *everything*! Even to the point where youngest son would pat the empty chair next to him at the dining table and Echo would jump up and just sit, upright, patiently looking around at us all as we all ate our meal. He never begged for food or tried to get onto the table, he was merely content to be included in the event.
He had his own way of seeking attention which often gave visitors a bit of a shock. He would stroll over, unnoticed, and head butt your foot/leg :heehee: It was impossible to ignore him :cat-kittyandsmiley:

                                He will be deeply missed.

                                Goodnight my beautiful friend xx
