Baffled ?

Hi All,

I'm trying to find a mains powered submersible water pump for my new pond - to generate a fountain. The pond itself got to 2m x 2m before my back gave way .

Loads of choice for a pump - but very few show what the fountain actually looks like in operation.

Anyone recommend a pump or even better would someone be kind enough to post some pics to show what they look like in situ?

2 metres by 2 metres will only need a small pump. You don't want the jet of water too high so that the wind then blows the water out of the pond, (unless you're completely sheltered from the wind.)

There are quite a few different spray patterns so pick the one you like. On one of my pumps, I took the Spray head off and have the water bubbling up instead. It looks really cool.

When you have your pump operating always leave it in the water when not in use. The seals can dry out otherwise.


P.S. For information: you can't have waterlilies with an operating fountain in a two squared metre pond.

It's usually windy here - it's blowing a gale now.

I'm really looking for sound of the water not so much a pretty spray fountain. I like the look of the ones with a single low spout - I'll have another google .

 

I have this type in my pond as well. Gives a lovely sound of falling water. Run by a small pump. I have another smaller one as well with only 5 dishes.

 

What I also did with another pump was to take off the riser and fountain head so that the water comes out of the pump under water. It gives a lovely burbling sound effect. If I get a chance, I'll take a pic. (Maybe not 'til Saturday.)

 

Being a cheap skate - I've opted for a Pontec 1000 pump - a budget model. It has 4 effects and the fountain goes up 0.8m - so should be ok if it gets a bit windy here - which it will.

11 watts as well - so should keep the old bills down.

Underlay and liner has arrived - so will be in place this weekend. Pump should appear on Friday - so by close of play we'll be up and running

Purchased from the Bradshawsdirect flea bay shop.

 

Installed underlay and liner this morning - I'm going for the 'chalice' fountain shape. Instructions are to wait for liner to settle and then trim.

Factoid : The fountains in Trafalgar Square originally worked from the water pressure in the aquifer below, but had to be pumped after the pressure dropped due to too many boreholes being drilled.
