    Just checked mine on the TFL site , 2014 Diesel Euro 5 and all is OK . As the charges are levied by number plate recognition cameras , I bet Ebay is doing a roaring trade in false stick on number plates :snorky:
    My sister lives in Ealing. Years ago I remember driving through London to Petticoat and Brick lane markets . Very light traffic , even had a drive past the houses of parliament and Trafalgar square. Now even on a Sunday morning it's a no go area. If we do visit it's by train from the suburbs. Still love the place it is a fantastic city :dbgrtmb:

      :scratch: So it goes on the year of the car, not the emissions which road tax is based on? (Another type of social cleansing? ie. we don't want "scruffy" old cars in and around London? :dunno:)

        And what is the money raised going towards? Green roofs would be a better idea..?

          This charge will rarely if ever affect me as I travel in by train but I have to say I like that they're doing something about air quality.
          Yes, it appears to penalize older cars (and therefore the owners) but there had to be some cutoff? I would expect the charge to apply to all diesel cars within 5 years and there to be a form of entry or travel permit system within 10.
          I also would love to know where the money goes!

            I think the money is going to the House of Lords expenses fund, they do need rewarding for all the work they put in .;)

              Although there is an age cut-off there is also an emissions regulation. So anything that has a rating worse than a certain EU emissions level will be liable for the charge.

              Quite right, too! Signed Lord Shiney :old:

                I've only ever been there on a couple of occasions - for 'business' - when I used to live in Chepstow - took the train in from Bristol.

                My lasting impressions are:

                very expensive scoff;
                can't sit down;
                crowded;
                cattle trains (underground).

                And now - £20 if you're brave enough to drive a car around there - no thank you very much sir - I'll stick with rural Wales :blue thumb:.

                  So we are guessing it is based on emissions?
                  What kind of emissions?

                  Up until three years ago I had a petrol Mondeo, was paying back then in excess of £500 a year road tax due to CO2 emissions.
                  Now they are having a go a diesel cars, but what emissions are they basing them on? as we all know VW, BMW Merc etc. don't actually have any emissions;):biggrin:

                  So are we talking CO2 which never killed anyone, or particulates, or any other stuff.

                  BTW, has anyone ever worked out the emissions that an electric car produces, bearing in mind you can't rely on the fact that when you charge it up you are only using electric from the local wind farm..:snorky:

                    My previous car was diesel and I paid a pittance in road tax, on the basis that it was low emissions.
                    My new-to-me car is petrol and I pay the same pittance in road tax, on the basis it is low emissions.

                    Is emissions a synonym of tax? :scratch: :dunno:

                      Each pound coin that is transferred will cleanse the air via a system that is a subtle mixture of reverse osmosis, catalytic cleansing and electrolysis with a dash of divine intervention. The good news is that Sadiq Khan has personally arranged for the effects of each pound gathered to be tripled for the first decade of the scheme. The man is a prophet - a genius prophet.

                        You omitted the fact that after the pound coins have gone through the process you mention, Sadiq will personally drop one of these special coins into the tank of every London bus and it will double the mileage, reduce the emissions and make the buses run on time by magically clearing all cyclists out of the way. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
