Good morning @shiney not knowing much at all about Fushias I have never heard of gall mite. I do have 3 or 4 hardy Fushias which do well here despite all their top growth not surviving the winters normally.
Below is a really strong grower which I like very much, is this magellanocia? It was here when we moved here Nearly 15 years ago and is now pretty huge. The flowers are dark pink with mauve throats and are quite big looking similar to that of @Tetters not the Fushias you see more commonly as hedging with much smaller leaves and flowers
Certainly it never fails to groan with flowers way into November unless we have had a severe frost, and has been much admired by many so I have taken loads of cuttings of it. Many of it's offspring are now dotted around these parts!

@silu Yes, that appears to be it. The gall mite hasn't spread North yet. :blue thumb: This was my biggest one and took a truck to carry the plant and root away.

      It was looking very sad.

Silu, those magellanica varieties of fuchsia are seen everywhere down here and huge specimens at that. :) If we do lose fuchsias Cornwall will be hit as hard as anywhere:sad:

I grow one or two here but as small shrubs, viz., they are hard pruned every year. They still make 5 or 6' from being cut to the ground. No sign of gall mite yet. No cure for it as far as I know and cuttings will also be affected.

I am far from complacent but I avoid many of the pests and diseases by this hard pruning I think.....e.g. Hypericums avoid rust and, perhaps, fuchsias will avoid gall mite???:noidea:
I am not saying hard pruning cures gall mite, not at all, but maybe without any foliage...woody or green... from autumn to spring will help. We'll see :noidea:

Oh hell,@shiney, what a shame for you. Being totally selfish hopefully the bug.... won't like our colder climate and not venture north of the border. Flowers on mine are the same I think as in your photo number 2
What are/have you planted in the bare areas?
With our colder climate @Verdun pretty much every year I have no alternative but to cut down all the stems come about Feb March. As you can see from the photo despite being chopped down completely it makes no difference to the vigorous or flowering the following season.

@silu We haven't planted anything in their place yet. We also lost our very large Cistus in the front garden :cry3: but have replaced it with another that we've transplanted from the bottom of the garden.

Good evening Shiney....oh yes, I did see your postings about magellinica, and it worried me no end. I have been inspecting my fuchsias regularly and so far have seen no sign of gall mite.
As Verdun has mentioned, whether it helps - or not, I always prune my hardy jobs back hard, and I`m hoping and praying that it WILL help - fingers crossed.
I also check the other fuchsias in the village front gardens (without mentioning it)

Maybe we have stumbled on the way to curb gall mite Tetters. :) Will be interesting to see how our fuchsias fare next summer when I think gall mite will be even more devastating.

It's a winter bloomer so frost free. It also benefits from a dry summer bake (in the greenhouse most years) with water being introduced only after growth emerges.
Not difficult in any way. Easy from seed as well.

I really really hope they will survive. If (as I think you mentioned) there is no foliage during the winter and spring months, surely the pesky mites will have little to feed on?
I have never encountered this problem before, and wonder if it`s something else we have inherited from the ''other side of the ditch''
