I have a scaffold tower which is very handy, but unless you have very long arms you not going to be able to reach without access to the other side.
I would force my way through somewhere with a little step ladder and LRHtrimmer and pop up in the middle and do it that way.

You could wait for a dry spell and then set fire to it,

        Problem solved,........permanently.

Why of course. With a little attention its actually quite easy to stay on top of the modern life. "The Internet of Things" is here! My friend has a new washing machine which she can turn on with her mobile phone (the kind that comes without buttons), it also takes their dogs for an afternoon walk and apparently her toaster recently planned their daughter's wedding.

Come on BeeHappy, we all must keep on top of the latest! ;) :heehee:

Zigs, I have big hedges like that which have to be chopped. If that client was my problem, I would tell him/her that the whole lot will HAVE to be cut back at the side first! Then.... if you are sufficiently unscathed, and have been suitably fed cake, and have copious amounts of coffee .. two boxes and a scaffold plank are the easiest and cheapest way to get elevated. A good pair of loppers and grim determination should top it all.... oh and a pruning saw for the fat bits.
The client MUST understand, of course, that he/she will need to get a mortgage organised in order to pay the bill. All that top will need to be burned as the job progresses as you have to take care of the hedgehogs ..... have fun :dancy:

Pellenc pole saw Selion model T220/300 has a 9ft max length plus saw head. I’m not sure if the heads can be changed.
The Helion extended hedge cutter is 6ft long plus head.

Stihl HL 94 is 7ft in total.

It’s what diameter of wood you will hit is what might be a problem and what tools like the Pellenc are available to hire.

Sorry I should have added the Stihl HLA 85 trimmer which is just over 10ft long with the head but you would need one of the back pack battery packs to achieve a nice long run time. Again hiring that might be an issue.

I use one of these (older model) and find it does a good job. I think they're about £100 now. Of course, you would need a good extension lead.

                        RPT4545M

It's not as robust as some of the petrol versions but has been sufficient for me for our garden, and we have a lot hedge to cut. I particularly like the fact that the head can be moved to different angles.

When cutting across the top I start off with a normal 24" hedge cutter which can get close to half way across. Then I use the Ryobi to finish the job. I find it more difficult nowadays to be able to hold it at arm's length horizontally as the old muscles aren't as good as they used to be :old:. Fortunately the neighbour has reduced the width on his side so it's no longer so wide.

The Ryobi is easily good enough for the privet (about 150ft long) and is now OK for the laurel as I had it reduced low to remove some of the heavy wood and have trained it properly.

Get a scaffolding contractor to erect a small platform on site, complete with scaffolding castors so it can be moved along sheets of sterling board. Constructed with a projecting platform on top to sufficiently oversail the hedge will enable a pole cutter to reach the back. Remove cut branches using a pole fitted with a hook attachment.

There may be something similar available from a hire company, but would probably be more lightweight and require some stabilisers extending from the base. Some have extending decks.

Or what about something like these?

Option of turning the job down?

Without cutting it back it just seems too problematic
