Brian, now retired from our allotment site used to quote often "Everybody does things differently", he was of course quite correct with that statement and I often repeat it to myself now whilst walking around our site or even reading through posts here.

I don't think there is anywhere where you can see so many of the same plants raised and harvested in so many differing ways, than on an allotment site, and to be honest...that is one of my top five favourite things about allotmenteering.

So with that in mind I will Google for answers, as mentioned above I will use their image search too, you tube if applicable to get a rough idea of the whole thing I am looking for from the truly outlandish to the more practical. I will form ideas from that on top of knowledge gleaned from the rhs.

I will search through postings here too and often will join specialist forums if I need to to search those or just view them. In the last year I have joined a grape growing forum, one for plumbers and another for builders. But I have viewed many many more.

In the last couple of days I have been searching for dahlia info, so I went to the national dahlia society (after googling) to their links page, then started perusing those and reading, as a result I mailed a couple of them and am presently in a mail conversation with one.

I am also in the market for some grow lights so I have searched here first as I know it has been discussed many times, I then googled a few points that threw up and last night I found myself on a few Marijuana growing forums (like Kristen used to do) as they really rely on lights to grow.

You could of course just put a plant in the ground "green side up" and most of the time that works fine but I have a natural curiosity...I just have to know the ins and outs.

Everything would be so much slower, longer winded and costly without Google and the net.

On the other side of the coin, the reason Google is not to be trusted.

A while ago, we were planning to take the Camper down to an italian lake called Lago di Braies. On google, I found this:

Lago di Braies: A Must-See Lake in the Dolomites

If you look at the fourth paragraph(?) down, you will see they recommend staying in Ferrara. Which is as they wrote "a two hour hike from the lake." Now look at both places on a map. Ferrara is in another province, something around 300km or so from the lake. Either italians or very fast hikers, or the info is incorrect....So, never trust Google!

@Steve R your post is correct, but try doing this:

Google "Ferrara" (nothing else) then "39030 Pragser Wildsee, Italy" on viaMichelin.com The answer is totally different. The reason being the Ferrara near the lake is "Ferrara di Braies."

Maybe its a problem with Michelin.com, I have not been to look, I just went to look at your link put it in google maps and found it..hence my post above.

My post above that explains how I research things from many areas to not just get one opinion, but many, then I make the final decision from there.

That's pretty much what I do, but will keep trying new ideas despite advice to the contrary, especially when there's only limited conflicting advice (or 'confirmations' are cut and paste jobs) as unfortunately loads of rubbish gets posted, then found by others using Google and re-posted, then given as answers on forums, etc. by Googlers without any experience themselves. Then I can either confirm other's opinions based on direct experience, or contradict them.

P.S. @Steve R What's that sunlight/shadow app you use (photography/gardening) as I'm not sure I'm finding the right one by Googling.

google like many books is written by a human. all humans have hidden agendas. thus WE have to always have common sense and arm ourselves with knowledge so to find the best information/answer.
