On Monday morning Barley's got to go to the vets to have a broken back tooth out. Could'nt get in until Monday.4 weeks ago he picked up a bit of bone when out walking, had a lot of trouble trying to get it off him. Got a biscuit out,he went for that. He seemed ok until a couple of days ago,he wouldn't let me clean his teeth. Checked his mouth and found the tooth broken. Vet asked if he'd been chewing antlers.

So, the insurance is paying that? or is that out of pocket, and the insurance is covering the extra?

That's the amount that the vet is charging, the insurance will pay for £230.0 we have to pay the rest.

When our cat Tommy was diagnosed with Sugar Diabetes I was slow in contacting the insurance company. It was all new to me. It was probably the best part of a year before I decided enough was enough. My insurance is cheap and it renews annually. Because the policy had expired and renewed between the diagnoses and the claim, I wasn't covered for it.

Tommy is sadly no longer with us. For 2 or 3 years he needed insulin injections twice a day. Bless him. That was a big expense that we hadn't budgeted for.

Diesel has been to the puppy parlour. Sorry for the quality of the pictures. Its not easy to get him to sit still (especially when his ears are still wet)

@Jack Sparrow sorry to hear about your Tommy. When we had our first dog,we didn't know at the time that we could only claim for something in one year after that he wouldn't be covered for that illness or something. With Petplan it's a bit expensive but we can claim as many times as we want. But there's a limit how much a year. Bracken had Leukemia and he was on a human chimotheropy tablets. But sadly got to him in the end. But we was covered by the insurance.

Aww, good luck wishes for Barley on Monday :doggieshmooze: :grphg:

The "Covered For Life" policy is worth its weight! Have you double checked with them that they will cover this? I know there are restrictions on dentals.

So sorry to read about Tommy and then your experience with your insurers. Many people sign up with pet insurances due to low cost, only to discover that low cost equals low cover. By the time they found out, they find how deep their pockets need to be!
Things to look out for when deciding on a suitable pet insurance would include things such as paying out "per condition" (that's another one which catches a lot of people out) plus, as you discovered to your cost, if they will cover a condition for more than one year worth of policy. A hard lesson to learn and one I fell foul of many years ago.

@"M" Thanks Yes he's covered for tooth extraction, but not cleaning teeth.
Bracken had a tooth out and the vet cleaned his teeth as well,it was all together in the price. He was covered for that. It was a mystery why his tooth broke after that he had a lnfection in his toe, have a feeling that it was something to do with the onset of the Leukemia:doggieshmooze:

Had a horrid ordeal with my Teddy (cat) many years ago. but all is well now, he had crystals in his bladder, after surgery, he is good to go. and lots of $$$$$$. Two Decembers ago he was diagnosed with Thyroid issues. So we chose the radiation method, its a one time injection. It gets rid of the part that is not functioning well. He had to stay for 4 days at the clinic while the levels dropped to be safe to get near humans. So far, so good. The success rate is wonderful compared to pills. Every time he pees, I tell him that $100 urine stream coming out of you dear cat. But I love him.

Morning all. Barley has his tooth out today. No food from 8pm last night. Got to get to Birmingham from Redditch in the rush hour, when all the kids are going to school for 8.30am.They used to be in Redditch. They moved there to have a bigger place. Going to change vets to be closer. Hubby finds it too much now with the work he has to do with the schools.
