Do try Open Office as well as Libre Office, though they are both quiet similar as they come from the same source years ago.

Most online reviews rate LO as the best and its kept more up to date which could be important security wise.

Having been told yesterday that the new Microsoft features update could take a while I hit the button. It took around five hours! :wallbanging: Isn't it about time they gave us an idea on how long these are going to take. 'A while' could mean as little as five minutes. Unfortunately whenever my computer is doing background work it pretty much makes it impossible for me to do anything else, slowing things down to the point even my keyboard barely functions.

I am fed up with the updates. I have specifically set the computer to only update when I request it. Each morning it tells me it can't update - and then it does it anyway. Most of the updates are crap programs that I don't want - not evenWindows 10.

I went to a Powerpoint talk one evening. When the poor speaker turned his laptop on it said - 'configuring your computer'. Everyone then had to wait for 45 minutes till it finished and the talk could begin. Give me Windows XP any day.

I do hope Microsoft never gets installed in self driving cars. You could tell a car to drive you to Bristol, and find instead that you were taken to Edinburgh just because Microsoft knows better.

Surprisingly PeterS this latest Windows 10 update has not - so far, given me any problems and that's probably the first time. I don't expect it to last though. :)

I wouldn't trust any self driving car to get me to Bristol in one piece, let alone a Microsoft involvement. In fact there's a self driven bus in the American news today that's crashed.

                Five hours for an update?
Blimey, never taken more than ten minutes for me, and that seemed a long time.
Are you sure your broadband speed is up to spec. @Sheal .

Also sounds like your PC is "clogged up", (getting technical now:snorky:), somewhere along the line if you cant do anything while it is updating.

Nah, you would never leave your driveway, because Microsoft would want to use all the cars power for updates......

I am currently working on a friends laptop that required the latest creators update to Win 10 - - 6 hours and counting......

I cant think why you would say that, it still works for me OK.
Probably because I like what I'm used to, I'd still be using XP if I could.

I tend to think there is a fair bit of snobbery regarding operating systems, but what do I know, just think if it works, dont fix it.
                      Atleast I dont get 5 or 6 hour updates:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Yep, and I won't be using any of it! What is annoying is the fact that Microsoft resets my personal set up with each big update, it's so frustrating! Right now I can't move my pictures about because I can't remember how I set it up before. :wallbanging:

There is a bit of snobbery, but having suffered Windows 8, followed by 8.1 on one of my machines, I know how bad it is. This update has been a BIG one, and it was being installed on a laptop that was very, very sick. Updates are now all complete, and the laptop is running like a charm.

You will be using some of it - the trouble is that you will never actually see the bits of it that you are using. The vast majority of these updates are patches for software that has security holes, or problems in the way they operate. Take a deep breath, make a cuppa and then sit down and you will figure out how to move your pictures - - I have found that most people's frustration with Windows 10 is purely because they have been led to believe it is problematic, when in actual fact it is merely their frustration that is causing them not to think logically or clearly.

Well the difference is FC, most of us only use the PC at home or for fun, not at work etc.
So when it comes to getting frustrated I've been there many times.

Why are computers so user unfriendly???
