Hi everybody. Long time since I have posted but perhaps somebody can advise.

Thinking of clearing out my garage. There are lots of old rusty nails and screws, must be at least two or three pails full, not to mention tools etc. Seems a waste to just bin them if there is a use for them. OH will not be using them as he has been in a wheelchair (for nearly four years) - shame because he loved his gardening.

Any ideas what to do with them or shall I just put them in the wheelie bin?
I would be glad of any suggestions

      Hi Jjordi :)

I take them down the scrap dealers, current price is only £55 a ton though

      Hi,

Expect someone will have a craft type suggestion on how you could use them, but not my thing.

If you go to your local council recycling center they normally have a container for just metal, rusty or not.
Don't think your local dustbin men would appreciate all that weight in the bin !

If you have some old tools, (electric or non electric ones? ) then suggest you advertise them and make a few bob, you might be surprised what some folk want to collect or re-use.

You could take some pics of the tools and post them in this forums For Sale section or even offer them to a local allotment society, always some beginners in need of tools.

If not, then Preloved is a free to use site, for selling or just giving away.

Over here some of the Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts and other youth organisations will pick up metal. They use the money to help their groups with expenses. Unfortunately for me there isn't one in my town but perhaps you might have one there?

        Hi Jjordie,
I'd be inclined to just put a small amount at a time in the recycle bin if you have loads.
Often, regarding hand tools, there are specialists that will take them off your hands.
My local market was full of the stuff last time I looked, also they often want them for boot sales.

If you have Blue Hydrangeas you could mix some rusty nails in the soil around them as it helps to keep them Blue.:spinning:

Thanks for replies. I must confess that I have not sorted all the things out yet.
Some of the tools etc belonged to OH's grandfather so they must be well over
              a hundred years old.
:scratch:Perhaps Antiques Road Show would like them :ideaIPB:
