Yesterday weather was very cold, strong winds and scuds of icy rain so no gardening. Went to get hay bales for the bunnies and popped into garden centre for coffee and cake. Bought two small pots of grasses, a Twirly Rush ( juncus effusus ) and the Acorus Ogon recommended by Verdun. I've never given much thought to grasses but having done some research I'm beginning to revise my opinion of them.

Glorious sight early this morning at the beach.....Venus and Jupiter provided an amazing brilliant light across the still water. Then to be replaced half an hour later by the rising sun. Not surprising then that I spent a while longer down there today.

Blue sky, full sun promising a gorgeous day.
You bought well lucius......you may well be tempted by other grasses now:rasp:. Check out the hakon grasses.....macra aureola and All Gold. Both will look superb in dampish, shadyish conditions; they form mounds that then cascade and "move" in the slightest breeze. So classy! :wow:

      Have a good day everybody:)

:wow: aren't you the lucky one. I watched a beautiful sunrise come up over the Snowdonia mountains earlier. Thought it was going to be a sunny day but clouded right over now and decidedly chilly out there.

Yes, will google your suggestions later :blue thumb:

Clear skies here. Very cold. Cars frozen first thing. Sun has thawed everything out now.

I actually got a tiny bit of gardening done today.

Haven't really had the chance to do much gardening wise since we moved house, there's been so much to do around the house and my first job in the garden was to replace a leaky shed roof.

However, today I managed to spend a little time in the greenhouse potting up some 'Tatsoi' pak choi which I sowed last month, for winter salad leaves. I also did a second sowing of Mizuna in a large pot, also for winter leaves. :)

Not much, but it's a start.

Another ton bag of soil delivered today, so spent couple of hours shovelling. With the help of R finally removed Hydrangea root. Only two more to go :exhausted:. Planted group of Hellebores in space vacated by Hydrangea. Got more stuff to go in later. Just been watching gardening programme on making a wildlife pond with built in bog garden and making a stumpery :yay:.

Planting a couple of clematis in niece's new build this morning. Expecting some hard digging and prepared for anything builders may have buried there.
Sun and blue sky and now feeling relatively warm now.......a gorgeous day :)

Verdun it is simply not fair that you have nice weather :). Cold, windy and wet here today :frown:. Cold and windy yesterday. Wanted to do more work around my gravel garden but maybe weather will improve later otherwise it will be more armchair gardening on YouTube :snorky:.

One of the YouTube vids featured a new build garden that suffered with serious water drainage issues. The owners had to literally rip out the garden and have drains installed and back filled with 29 tons of soil :hate-shocked:. The developers paid for some of the work. Hope you don't find anything like that in your niece's garden Verdun.

Sunny day here too - and my day off after a 10 day stretch in work! Probably going to head to the garden centre for a wander round this afternoon; I need a large pot for the bareroot rose my parents have sent me ("Welcome Home"), and I've been looking forward to seeing all their Christmas displays...

I know, I know, I know lucius. If I could swap with you then of course I would :heehee:
I have planted clematis and, surprise, surprise.....I got wet!!! Ha ha, only the hose though; it had a will of its own.
The builders were pretty good........of course some stones and compacted soil but nothing dumped or buried there. They are keen to have 100% positive feedback so everything seems to have been done to that end.
Mind you, lucius, it was so hot with all that sunshine :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I remembered to water the pots in the greenhouse today. I discovered to my dismay a small hole in the outside and pots on the floor. Last time I was in there I added bonemeal to the pots. I think the dogs have been up to mischief.

Dug out the dead plum tree, it snapped at the base while trying to pull it out :gaah:had to put my back into work to get the stump out. Planted a Mahonia Lionel Fortescue in its place :).

Chopped the plum tree and other bits for next door log burner.

More shovelling of soil and gravel and planting of Spring bulbs. This is an old photo and since it was taken I have removed the Hydrangea stump and the gravel surrounding it. The hedgehog house was unoccupied, so been relocated. I'm wondering if I could plant Ferns here and create a mini stumpery.
