I must admit, the whisky whiff from the laptop was still present upon inspection - that should have been consigned to history now though @silu? Thinking about it between you and I, we might have risked turning your wee laptop into an alcoholic - - after your wee treat, I used shedloads of alcoholic cleansing fluid on it

As for the minimum pricing, it is utterly barmy! What I want to know is who is getting the extra money? If a bottle of el cheapo whisky is going up by a couple of quid, who gets that couple of quid? I bet the roads don't get fixed any faster.....

You should make your own - 20 litres of homemade wine for less than £20, dead easy. Strawberry Jam wine is lovely; three tumblers of that and I am anybody's, four and I am everybody's! :snork:

It's the shops/supermarkets/off licences ie the retailer who is going to pocket the extra, complete madness. I wouldn't mind quite so much if the extra revenue was going to the likes of Alcoholic Anonymous as an example . It's all meant to stop alcoholics who drink cheap strong alcohol and is not going to apply to the better more expensive brands which are usually above the threshold of pricing per alcoholic content EXCEPT when there are decent offers on a la at Morrisons atm where you can get 2 bottles of Grouse for £22 which is well below the price level once the minimum pricing comes in. Do I think it will make a jot of a difference to those who have a serious problem with alcohol? no but it will affect those on a limited budget who enjoy a drink. I was told by a check out operator that the law brought in that you can't buy alcohol before 10am has made things worse for problem drinkers because they buy more the night before and drink the lot.
I'll have a wee bet with you that the better branded alcohol will rise in price to keep the difference between them and the low priced brands. Nanny state strikes again.
I'll have to buy a few jars of Hartleys Strawberry jam the next time I'm at the shops:)

Buy Sainsburys double size jars - seven of them will make five gallons of wine, at half the price of Hartleys.

Besides, it was @Zigs and @Scrungee that led me astray :snorky:

                  Refunds :heehee:

I took the liberty of doing some online shopping with a familiar shopping site to get last minute bits for Christmas. I ordered half a dozen items and then paid premium price for next day delivery.

All bar one item arrived, although certainly not next day and that one item was est delivery 20th Dec; received an email last Wednesday (27th) stating that would be the day! It wasn't :frown: Had an opportunity today to check the tracking and, sure enough, it stated it was delivered last Wednesday :th scifD36:

Used that little window "Chat" facility to explain the item was not delivered.
I was courteous, kept to the facts and waited for a response. After a line or two to confirm order number, name, the response came back that I could have a refund on that item (goodie!) *and* either have the other items refunded or re-sent! I clearly typed: I would like that item refunded plus the postage (as I paid premium price for next day delivery).

The answer I received was: we will refund you for all items at £***.** plus postage :)

 Erm ... I only requested ONE item be refunded (and that was the cheapest on the whole order), not the whole bliddy order!!!

So, lucky Mr "M" really did get gifts from Santa this year after all (and I get to spend that money all over again!) What a bizarre way to do business! I didn't even get to put my grumpy chin on!!

I think I know the site you are referring to @"M", and I must admit that I have had similarly positive experiences when it comes to sorting out issues/refunds. :dbgrtmb:

I think you did - just that they give that special treatment quite a bit, and that is the reason that they are successful. :)

That's because an Abacus is too complicated. You want to try a Soroban as they have only half the amount of beads. :dbgrtmb:
