    Hiya folks :)

So, I plan to retire in April 2019. To that end I have put my name down for an allotment, which with any luck (and a bit of design) I’ll acquire next October, which will ge me time to prepare the ground for the following year. When the time is right, I’ll start a thread. I also plan to do plenty of traveling, both at home and abroad. As I like to play golf, that too will get a greater slice of my time, and traveling around will enable me to play more courses. Financially, I’m fairly secure, thank goodness (relatively speaking), I just hope I live long enough to enjoy it!
Mods, please feel free to move if not in the right section.

    Cheers, Freddy :dbgrtmb:

I wish you all the best for your retirement, Freddy, and that you get the Allotment in good time, play Golf and get the occasional Hole in One, travel to your heart's content, and of course never leave the GC Gang.:love30::snorky:

As for the good dying young, hmm, maybe I should be a badass? Nah, ain’t going there, I’ll take my chances :dbgrtmb:

          Hi Freddy,

All the best in your retirement and enjoy the time leading up to it.

Get lots of travelling in but you'll need to plan things so the allotment survives. We do little travelling during the peak growing season, and no more than a week at a time. Further and longer travelling gets done from November to early March. :)

If you're passing this way at any time you can break your journey for some lunch or a cuppa. :blue thumb:

That was my first thought. It's so tempting to use one's increased liesure time to start growing absolutely loads of stuff, and then wonder what to do with it whilst away on the loads of holidays you also have time for.

The main problem is making sure that things are watered. We're fortunate that we have plenty of volunteers. :blue thumb:

A lot of the crops can survive being left, as long as there is sufficient water, but things like runner beans aren't too happy if you leave them for a couple of weeks. They grow too big and then start going to seed.

Hiya folks, thanks for the input :blue thumb:

Firstly, the plot is likely to be around 5 perches, so not a massive area. I’ll be using raised beds which served me well at my last home, and mulching should help with regards to watering (I won’t be growing runners). Secondly, trips abroad will generally, if not exclusively, be out of season as I don’t like it too hot, 25c is ideal :)
These are of course just plans at this stage, so subject to change when reality kicks in, but I do think it’s ‘doable’.

I plan to ‘tour’ with the ‘van’, visiting parts of the country that I’ve never been to, so I may well take you up on your kind offer :dbgrtmb:

I retired this year Freddy after working a 4 day week then a 3 day week . Absolutely loving it :blue thumb:
We bought a static in the Silverdale area just 50 minutes from us . So we can come and go as we please . Great thing about retirement is you can always put jobs off until tomorrow - no rush !

                      Hiya Harry
I have to admit I feel as though I’m hanging on by my fingernails with regards to working, I’ve really had enough of it now. It’s not a bad job as such, it’s just the same old routine, day after day. It’s turned into a drudge :frown:
