I know I'm going to make myself sound like an old git :old: BUT, let's go back a few years, I'm 41, let's look at eating habits in my family throughout that time, (I was brought up by my grand parents)
Sunday: beef one week chicken the next & veg
Monday cold beef or chicken & veg
Tuesday: meat pie & veg or corned beef & veg
    Wednesday: fish
    Thursday; beef stew
    Friday: fish & chips
    Saturday: sausage & mash

There was no choice, my nan didn't cook six different meals & if you didn't eat your dinner you were given it cold the next morning! (Cold potatoes & cold gravy are disgusting, I know from experience). Nan didn't use a supermarket, there weren't as many as there are now in the town, she used a butcher, a baker a greengrocer & a very small local shop. If the loaf of bread wasn't used up then it was made into bread & butter pudding etc etc. I can only remember having ham sandwiches at Christmas, the rest of the year we had cheese sandwiches...but there wasn't any crisps (crisps were a treat), my point I'm making is today there's so much greed, so much waste & everyone wants to pay the cheapest price for everything & that's the problem, if you keep dropping the price then animal welfare will drop & people working in factories/food processing plants will have to cut corners, the profits will be down so the amount of employees will go down meaning in turn the employees have to work harder for no more money & mistakes will be made, it's obvious to me, if I can see it why can't others??

I'll have a go at that!

In the old days, (and recent days for the ever increasing minority of people who produce their own stuff), vegetables stored correctly would last until Spring, newly laid eggs would last for a month, and meat would be 'hung'.

Nowadays, consumers rely upon Sell By/Use By Dates printed on packed products, rather than using common sense and their noses, or putting an egg in water for a sink/float test. Instead they just use the packaging dates to bin perfectly good food.

Today we spent around £8 on 90% off salad/veg at Sainsburys, saving us £89, most of which will last at least a couple of weeks, with some stuff going into our freezers. All 'best before' tommorow, but will last for ages.

(I reckoned that Sainsburys thought it was going to snow all day, and quickly reduced all their perishables as soon as they opened).

Rancid chickens was one of the main reasons that we stopped going to Tesco, and that was years ago. At one time, Tesco were really good, but it seems that they got too big for their own good and now there sole aim is to be the cheapest of the cheap - quality isn't a consideration.

I wouldn't buy any meat from Tesco nowadays, unless I was absolutely desperate.

This is disgusting. When I first learned of this a few months ago I stopped buying prepackaged chicken. I now only buy free range whole chicken. Guess what: no more diarrhea. I used to wonder why when I sometimes opened a pack of, say, chicken breasts with a few days to go before the use by date, there was sometimes a smell.

It is, and what's the point of having laws/rules if people just break them

i've seen lots of things in the passed, but you say something and you're removed ASP
I even left my job because of things i've seen didn't want to be part of it
