Since buying this I'm finding my wi fi is not much use as anything I try to stream just keeps buffering.
I'm on Virgin and I've got a booster.
I've been looking at the download speed and it is basically rubbish, I'm only getting 13.89Mbps, and that is sitting next to the booster.
I get only slightly more when I'm two foot from the router.

Using a cable yesterday I got about 38Mbps, but the reason I bought a lap top was to get away from atleast some of the bloody cables, likewith the bluetooth speaker.

Is it just me, or does none of this technology really work as well as we are told it will.

If you have a Virgin Superhub, that is likely your culprit - they are utter garbage. I would strongly suggest getting yourself a decent quality external router (I use a TP Link Archer C7 which is a cracking bit of kit), and dump the not-so-Superhub into modem only mode.

I am on a wireless connection on this PC, and have just checked my speed:

Not sure FC are they expensive?
I'm only paying for 40 Mbps

Before you buy anything, check what sort of connection you are on first; almost certainly we will be able to get you something for half that money. Are you on VM's cable network?

Yes, cable, I applied to have the speed doubled as they were offering it at no extra cost.

OK, simple stuff first. Make sure that your hub is nowhere near a cordless telephone base; if it is, move it well away, as the two simply do not get on.

Next, switch everything that uses your wi-fi off (phones, computers etc) and switch the hub off at the mains for a couple of minutes; fire it back up, and give it time to boot and stabilise before switching computers etc back on.

If there is no change, then I would say that one of these would fit your job, assuming that you are not a heavy user. Notably, one of the questions asked by another potential customer has a noteworthy answer:

The process of setting it up is not difficult, but the results of doing so are generally very worthwhile.

Regarding close to a cordless telephone base.
            How close is close?
Only I bought a new one only a couple of weeks ago, it is in the same place as the old one was, but probably about 10 to 12 ft away from the hub.

I've just unplugged the phone and done another speed test.
            No change.

I'd say you've got about a 99% chance that it will solve your problems - Google how to put your Superhub into modem mode (tons of stuff on the net, as it is a VERY common issue) and print it off before you start; I am knocking about this next few days too, if you need help.

FC, one last question for now.
I'm guessing I will need a cable from the hub to my new one???

Yes, one ethernet cable, so make sure you get one long enough for wherever you plan to put your router.
