Last night we went out at 7 p.m. and although the temperature was just on freezing I had great difficulty getting the windscreen wipers unstuck from the screen :rolleyespink: It's all frosted up again now but, if I'm going to go out - not sure yet, I'll start the car, put on the blowers and go back inside for ten minutes.

Keep warm and snug. :blue thumb:

Severely cold last night neighbour said he recorded -16:yikes: My central heating boiler which sits outside is not working:wallbanging::wallbanging::wallbanging: no doubt because it's too cold:doh:. It was NOT my idea to site it outside (made it easy for the plumbers) Waiting to hear back form the makers (Grants) to see if they have any bright ideas as to how to get it to work/stop it happening again. What I don't understand is this is the 2nd time it has stopped this winter. The last time was just before Christmas when again it was cold and yet it never caused any bother through the hellish winters on 2010/11 and 11/12:scratch:. Thank god we have 2 large wood burning stoves which chuck out heat so apart from no hot water we will survive:). Update, got hold of Grants, they reckon the culprit will be water in the oil tank which has frozen and stopped oil getting to the boiler. This makes a lot of sense so just ordered some water finding paste....never even knew such a thing existed! If water is present then I need to buy some tank sponge thingies to sop up the water, it's either that or drain the tank:yikes:, that's a no as there is over £1000 worth of oil in the tank atm.

The joys of living in the countryside, eh, @silu?:) We opted for geothermal but even then it peters out after 10 days of -17C. Oh and nobody twigged that when you have power cuts, there's no leccie for the heat pump:lunapic 130165696578242 5:  Hope your sponges work!

:) Yes @noisette47 there are a few (very) downsides to living out in the countryside. Good old fashioned types of heating work despite modern methods letting us down when we need them most. I am 100% certain that my quality of life here is, despite the odd blip!, what suits me. Having lived in what is considered by many the best UK city to live in from a quality of life perspective(Edinburgh) and lived in what is now (not so much when I lived there....is there a connection :lunapic 130165696578242 5:?) a decidedly sought after area there is nothing which would make me wish to return. That said I nearly died from hypothermia making supper:). Daughter's BF who is a highly trained mechanic/engineer has a pump which he is confident will take any water out of the oil tank. :fingers crossed: tomorrow morning bathing/showering will be permitted again:rolleyespink:.

@silu I shouldn't think you have that much water in your tank. Is your pipe feed to the boiler right at the bottom of your tank? I'm thinking that the water will be sitting below the oil. I have an old Grant boiler but mine's in the garage. It's being replaced in under two weeks, so I'm expecting -20C when the work starts. :)

I haven't been anywhere near my garden @Gail_68 for nearly two months, it's either too frosty or there's been snow on the ground. I'm running out of things to amuse myself with inside, today I've done a bit of plastering.

Another sun shiny day but the frost still won't go. 2C/36F.

I can lay my hands to quite a few things @Gail_68 but I've never tried bricklaying.

I'm not outside long enough at the moment to deep freeze. I go out to feed the wild birds in the morning and that's about it. :)

Well they more or less all come in the same factors of a bricklayer @Sheal :snorky:

I either pop out to feed Minty when she does show up or to sort some water for the birds but most mornings it's frozen so I break it with warm water...i'm sure they think it's spring here :)

you may want to check to see if the diesel as waxed in the feed pipe as diesel can wax at low temp's,

there is things to trap water (don't know name) which you put into your tank to absorb the water, (thingy on a bit of string) becarefull if the string brecks it will float around your tank, then when the fuel is low enough the bit of string can/may go into the feed pipe and block the feed, happern to a freind and i had the problem in an old lorrys diesel tank which took 5 months to find

Dull and damp here today. Pretty much the same as yesterday. Sunday was cold but the sun was shining.

Talking of bricklaying, I’ve signed up to a tutorial. There are jobs in my garden I want to do with the block pavers I bought. There were various different course on offer at different lengths and prices. A while back I asked for clarification on the content as all the courses shared the same description. As I got no definitive answers I plumped for the cheapest one. I just hope there is not so much time between me attending the class and actually doing the jobs that I forget what to do.

                                :snorky:
