What is a hot pot? I keep seeing it ordered on Corrie and have never known what it is.

        Isn't it stew or pot-au-feu?

@CanadianLori , Lancashire Hot Pot is a stew originating from Lancashire in the North West of England. It consists of lamb or mutton and onion, topped with sliced potatoes and baked in a heavy pot on a low heat.
It is extremely yummy :blue thumb:

The recipe I've been using of late for Lancashire Hot Pot is this one...

            Lancashire hot pot

...even if it is not the one I grew up eating.

It couldn't be. John and William didn't make Worcestershire Sauce until years after you were young. It was made in 1837. :blue thumb: :snorky:

They were called Jack and Bill by their friends, and somebody wrote a rhyme about them...

Jack and Bill went up the hill,
                To make some Worcester sauce,
                But Jack fell down,
                And broke his crown,
When he landed on his horse!

@Sandy Ground and @HarryS thank you. Lots of people on the show order the stuff but I never see anyone actually spooning it out of the serving dish. This clears it up for me. I might try making it one day. :)

@CanadianLori can you get all the ingredients there? The inhabitants of the Black Pudding Belt will never forgive you if you omit the most important one! :snorky:

@Sandy Ground yes I can! And I always have a bottle of Worstershire sauce in the refrigerator :) Lamb is not a plentiful meat at the fresh meat counter. Maybe our lambs run faster... but I can buy frozen which is usually from New Zealand.

Any meat would do. We are not keen on lamb so we would do something similar with beef. It might be called something else but it would look the same.

I was thinking more Peter Bog-Horror Pot. I do not take any claim to that, as the term was invented by a well known motorcycle publication many years ago.:snorky:

Wee hint from me @CanadianLori, if you do make it, as well as using freshly ground black pepper, use a good pinch of ground white pepper as it adds a lovely background heat to it.

If needed, I would have added the white pepper afterwards. Freshly ground black pepper is already in the recipe. Although not to everyones taste (especially sassenachs  ) you wouldnt believe how much flavour the Black Puddings add.
