    I think you left out the major factor in this - the politicians don't/can't think far enough ahead to do these things, as they are not quick fixes. They are thinking more about their livelihoods and getting elected next time. Not that some of them are not trying to do good, because I think they are, but they can only think shortermism. I've known quite a lot of MPs and they have all (apart from one) been thinking of their constituents and trying to help them but only as a quick fix.

      Not just Tesco's
      there's lots of contracts for most food, weather it's for grain for your bread your milk, your veg etc both side's have to sign a contract

      year's ago milk went from farm to your local dairy now it trucked all over the country even abroad becauce you may get a better price

      grain is trucked all over the place :doh:i know

      We should only export our extra's and only import want we can't grow

        I'm thinking, I do sometimes.:scratch::biggrin:
        And the way I see it the word "global" is the problem, if we were to grow out own food, produce as much as we can and not import we would be considered protectionist, inward looking etc..

        So we export and import, it's not just us that do it, it's the way of the world.

        Plus there are those that want it that way as there is money to be made.:smile:

          Going back to French cars and despite having a very unreliable Peugeot 207 Gt (partner had a 206 which ended up scrapped too) I just traded in my Astra for a Peugeot 208 Roland Garros edition yesterday... :oops:

          20180112_154856.jpg

          The reason I went back to a pug? I bloody love driving them!

          What's the name for a pug lover @longk? I'd love to know! :biggrin:

          It's diesel.. I honestly think the death of diesel will be a sad time and am not looking forward to these electric cars for all the reasons mentioned above.

          And speaking of Mercs, funnily enough the old man was telling me to get an A class instead.. (family is full of mercs :redface: )

          Which brings me too.. the other half has had to call it a day with his slk 230 so it's up for sale :frown: Parts are costing an arm and leg, still in limp mode and over the last month a nasty rusty hole in the passenger front wing has appeared. We just haven't got the time or cash to repair or pimp it, we've had some fun with it though!

            Hi all,

            Wonder if I could get some info on car braking systems as not knowing the answer is making me wonder.

            Someone with a Mk2 2006 Toyota Avensis, dual line braking with ABS, had a sudden big leak on one of the rear lines, resulting in, as he said, total brake failure and when checking found that the master cylinder was empty ?

            Now I know that modern master cylinders have two inlets from the fluid reservoir, but I would have thought that towards the bottom of the reservoir there would be a baffle or similar so if one circuit leaked then the other would still have access to fluid and so retain some braking; otherwise it seems to defeat the point of dual line braking ?

            However, I've never looked or seen right down at the bottom of a reservoir to prove the point, but given there is, I'm a bit suspicious he may have two failures, the pipe leak and say something in the master cylinder seals or abs unit ?

              A sucker? A glutton for punishment?..... :biggrin:

              Only kidding @Linz - I suspect that nowadays, the French cars are as good (or as bad) as anything else on the roads. The days of individuality in cars has long gone, and most of them share shed loads of parts anyway

                @ricky101 - that does sound odd; my understanding of modern braking systems is that should one circuit fail, the other should hold sufficient pressure to at least stop the vehicle. @longk will advise better than I can though

                  We have had three Pugs over the years.

                  Our first one was a seven seater 505 estate, back in 1994. in those days there was little choice for a 7 seater car. We liked it, great space but very quirky controls inside, everything seemed to be upside down and back to front. Seemed to recall taking ages just working out how to switch the lights on :)

                  We then went to Ford for our seven seaters and had a couple of Galaxys.

                  When our kids flew the nest we went down to something smaller. Four yeays ago Mrs JWK got a Peugeot 3008 which she still has and has been very reliable and is exceptionally fuel efficient although rather slow.

                  At that time I bought a 206cc because I was loved the idea of a convertible. But it was terribly unreliable and I sold it after a year and went back to Minis (I've owned 8 of the old 'classic Minis and 3 modern BMW Minis - I love 'em!)

                  Not sure what our next car will be, looking at retirement soon and will go down to one car. Thinking of a Volvo XC60 and intend to test drive one next week.

                    @JWK - read this

                    I only wish I could afford an XC60 - very handsome looking car inside and out, and knowing Volvo it will be supremely comfortable.

                      I'm in the opposite camp. I wouldnt have any newer Volvo even if they gave me the sticker price as an incentive to buy...:snorky:

                        I really like the 3008! If I was to get a suv it would be one of the Peugeots.. but that xc60 is very nice too. My cousin and a friend has a 206cc and both have had problems with the back windows and roof, shame really.

                          It's very practical but pug ugly, we don't care we are inside looking out :)

                          Some of the family cars Peugeot have made in the past were in my opinion the best looking you could buy for any money:

                            Thanks for that link FC. We can't afford a new one so it will have to be secondhand for us. I will let you know what I think after my test drive.

                              I had the saloon version (that colour too) - not a bad looker at all. Rubbish electrics though.
