    Excellent sharp pics by Mr K @Kandy, :dbgrtmb: were they taken from inside (through glass) or out?

    Well, I got out to Blandford and managed to find a few Hawfinch but very distant at the top of a very high tree and with white cloud behind (and along the private drive to Bryanston Public School!!!!), no chance of a decent shot but at least I have seen one.

    One the way back I stopped off at Holton Lee on the edge of Poole harbour
    and found two Spoonbills on the new pool along with a Greenshank and a Green Sandpiper.

      Glad you managed to finally get to see and photograph the Hawfinches but you like everyone else find them difficult to get photos of close up as they are very timid and anything can frighten them off.I am just glad that we have now seen them twice,the first time last March at Lynford Arboretum:smile:

      Mr Kandy got the photos through the closed lounge window because if he had opened the window they would have flitted off.While I was busy trying to get my hands on my camera he stood right in front of the lounge window taking up all the room so I could have pushed him out of the way but thought that I had better not:snorky:

        The only birds I can go out into the garden and take pics of and be ignored, are Siskins and the pair of Pied Wagtails, even the sparrows fly off when I open the back door!:smile:

                  Poole Park lake. Although there are several Great Northern Divers over wintering in Poole harbour, one decided it prefered the lake in Poole park and came very close to the path around it. I have only ever seen one in the distance before.

                  Also on the lake for the winter were Goldeneye (plus red Breasted Mergansers and Little Grebes but too far out for a pic).

                        @Sheal,

                        Herring Gull - Light grey back.

                        Lesser Black Backed Gull - Dark Grey back.

                        Greater Black Backer Gull (no photo) Black back and slightly larger than the other two.
                        Does this help?

                          Spotted Redshank, unlike the Common Redshank which can be seen in numbers here, this one only appears in ones or twos but is much more confiding.
                          Why this wader has evolved to have a 'bent tip' to it's bill I haven't a clue!:scratch:
