    Hi All,

Looking for a suitable table saw to cut some 18 or 25mm MDF or Ply sheets, though it will be the suppliers 8x4 sheets who will cut down the length, so my max width will be 2ft.

Not going to be doing masses, but need to get a clean cut with close tolerances and hopefully some 45 degree joints.

Have a standard hand held circular saw but not easy to get straight accurate cuts.

There are some little table top saws around £50 /60 but no real size to their tables.

Seems these Screwfix or B&Q saws have a decent table area around the £100 mark.

Anyone used one of these; good or bad ?

Have looked at s/h ones but nothing I would want to use. ( putting it politely !)

    Thanks

If I was buying just one machine to do all of the woodworking jobs I have ever done, or will be doing in the future, then the choice would come down to just one machine. Its a Shopsmith. They are a bit more expensive than the ones you linked to, but on the other hand, you wont need to get the 8x4's cut down in the shop. Take them home and cut them yourself, its big enough for that. They do turn up used now and again.

The bandsaw attachment for it is capable of something quite unique. If you ever want to cut (for example a 6 metre length of 75x75mm timber into two 3 metre lengths, it will do it...

Although its claimed to have been invented in the USA, the first ones were made in pre-WW2 Germany. In other words, its stood the test of time. :)

As with most things it is about how much you want to spend and how much work you intend doing.
If only a small amount I'd be inclined to just use a skill saw and a straight edge, if only 2ft wide then you can get a chop saw that goes pretty much that wide.

Got to admit I'm not well up on what is available from the DIY range these days though.

These are great for site work.

I think Dewalt do something similar and a bit cheaper.

I bought one of these a wee while back for a job I needed to do, and was very impressed with it. I haven't used it a busting lot, but I have found it to be accurate and easy to use.

@ricky101 , for a £100 target price , both table saws look amazing. The reviews on both of them are very very good . Then again does anything get a bad review on Screwfix.. hmmmm.
I am only looking at photos but the ,SCHEPPACH 2000W 250MM TABLE SAW HS100S , does look a nice piece of kit. Lots of power 2kw and looks sturdy for its price range :blue thumb:

@HarryS, Scheppach is a new name on me, a B&Q/Screwfix own brand ? which I assume Triton also is, they look very similar items...?

@Fat Controller , as you might have guessed I'm looking to make some new speaker enclosures as it will be easier than trying to refurbish my old ones.

Been thinking of making some new better speakers at the same time; not many BW 601/602 around for sale!

Has anyone here has built and found the diy route way better than typical bought ones ?

A typical US plans site, but must be popular as this company does them as kits.

Scheppach is an old established German Company originating in pre-war Bavaria if I remember correctly. I'm almost certain that Triton is from Australia. So neither are a B&Q/Screwfix own brand.

Hi @ricky101 Those table saws look ok but members have given good advice before hand...my hubby as a circular saw like yourself and he finds the shield annoying :)

It happened when the bomb dropped lol, yes its ready for a tidy up, once ive fitted the skirting board it will get sorted out, the skirting was damp when I bought it and had to dry it out, its blocking my path to do anything atm.

@martin-f It looks a danger zone [IMG]did the wood bow with the damp as that can be annoying and half the time you loose out on using wood like that [IMG] with it mate and I hope it's ok when you come to fitting it...have you nearly done your room now? :)

If you dry it slowly and keep turning it its fine, that's the reason its in the shed where its cold and not in the house it will be fine when I come to installing it, some of its been cut down and used on the door frame,

I'd love a table saw, a flip over one even more but for now I rely on my sturdy work bench, my 4' spirit level, straight bit of timber, 2 "G" clamps and my skill saw.
