Best place and time to buy Main Crop Sarpo MIra Pots

Hi All

When is the best time and where is best to purchase my main crop potatoes, I am keen to try Sarpo Mira again as they did well last year on very chalky soil.

 

Now, while thems still in stock

 

I got mine last week. They had only been in stock for 4 days and the sacks were getting quite low in such a short time. I think we are all so keen to avoid the dreaded blight and banking on this variety, hence it being so popular. If around your area is anything like mine, I'd get your skates on and buy now.

 

That's a good price. £2.25/Kg at my local nursery.

Where is that? Please tell me it's Groves GC as I'll be staying in West Bay sometime over the next couple of weeks (13 & 14 Feb) and the 65p/Kg saving will help offset Mrs Scrungee's complaints about being away for the best part of Valentine's Day, despite my own personal sacrifice in being away on one of the most important seed sowing days of the year.

 

I bought my Sarpos yesterday , just a small bag . Storing them in a cold dark garage.

 

You'm barred from Groves as they heard you don't spend any money in garden centres

 

I bought a new full price handle for my lugworm fork there in 2002, and I'm sure I bought a reduced price packet of Kelsae seeds there a few years later.

I bought mine at our local GC . I only need a small amount , so they had lots of pre packed varieties by Taylors . There were no Sarpos in the bulk buy bags.

 

Wyevale garden centres have them, loads in my local one on Wednesday, but might be worth checking before setting off. They're charging £5 for 2 Kg, or £8 for 2 x 2Kg bags.

Thanks for the replies

After all that I popped in my local Garden centre in Newhaven last night and there they were, I bought a bag about 2KG for £5 as you could choose which you wanted I got some first earlies Duke of York.

The thing with this is when I went in my local garden centre earlier this season they said they would not be getting them in "just our usual stock coming in" I was told.

Now how should I store them or should I start to chit them now?
