Yawn yawn, wakey wakey winter 2018

Aloha everyone,

A bit colder here at 36F but it's going to be a lovely sunny, electricity producing, day. The wind is rather cold (went out to feed the birds) but I'm still going to get my haircut.

Lots of shopping to do whilst I'm out. Need to get the food in ready for the catering of the quiz on Saturday. Also silly things such as light bulbs, rat poison (now have six rat holes under the fence to next door where they seem to set up home under the concrete slab that he puts his bins on) and a number of hardware things. Fortunately I can get all the non-food stuff at the trade builders merchants. Although I've been retired 17 years I still have my business trade card for the place (know most of the staff by name ).

On the way I have to pop in to the village hall to see the builders who are resurfacing the road, car park and footpath.

I'm just a little bit annoyed. Checked on the men doing the car park and they've cut through the electric cables that operate the car park barrier

@Jack Sparrow It would prefer it with a capital letter as it takes it to be a name.

Costs for repairing the barrier electrics are:- call out fee £210 +VAT, £60 per hour +VAT plus £157.50 +VAT for each induction loop that needs replacing.

We shall need to get the contractor to claim on his insurance.

Busy again today.

@Zigs a good plumber that I use charges £90 +VAT call out fee that includes one hour of work. Extra hours, or part of, are £60 +VAT. Had to call him out the other week so found a lot of niggly extra jobs that needed doing (washers changing, taps loose etc.) and told him to do the main job and then the others but to stop at the end of the hour. He works very fast and did them all - with two minutes spare.

I didn't get around to signing in to Wakey Wakey yesterday

It was a busy day as I was running our annual quiz. I was cooking lunch for all eight of Mrs Shiney's quiz team, some of whom had travelled a long way to join in. One had come all the way from Folkestone .

I was quizmaster, as usual, and had to go just after lunch to set up the hall (tables, chairs, sound system, screens and projectors) and help with preparing all the food. The quiz went very well and Mrs Shiney's team won, as usual. Then I had to clear up the hall and got home before midnight.

Today won't be so busy.
