Gro Sure Seed Compost 30 ltre bags £1 @ Wickes

Picked afew of these up, plenty of UK wide stock available.

That was quick ! I normally use Gro-sure seed compost . Think I paid £4.99 last week for 30L.
Wickes show it at £1.99 on the website , still a very good price.

 

Now showing at £1.99 for 30L which is still a very good price Westland Gro-sure Seed & Cutting Compost 30 L | Wickes.co.uk Stock levels look rather patchy, nothing at my local store but 425 bags showing at one 17 miles away that I'll be passing next week. Tip - as they're normally stored outside over winter, avoid the soggy ones on top.

For comparison, 20L bags are £3 at Wilkos Westland Gro Sure Seed and Cutting Compost 20L

@JWK Other composts are 'buy 4 get one free', but it doesn't show against this compost on their website - it was the first thing I looked for.

So you got 2 bags @ £1.99 = £3.98 free for 8 (of the 10) bags bought.

So if anyone finds some, try to buy in multiples of 4 and they will work out at only £1.49 for each 30L bag. That's 1/3 of the cost per Litre at Wilkos.

 

I try not to look a gift horse in the mouth these days. There are too many times when bargain buys are missed. I'm not sure how and when i would use this compost. Maybe i could keep it safe until I get myself a new greenhouse in the Autumn.

Compost, especially seed compost, is best stored under cover because compost bags have multiple tiny holes where wet, microbes, moulds, small worms, etc. can get in and cause spoilage of expensive seeds, resulting in false savings. I only sow expensive (and very small seeds) in quality fresh seed compost, or stuff stored under cover until the following year.

But 'cooking' in a microwave is supposed to re-sterilize it, only Mrs Scrungee wont let me use the one in our kitchen.

Might be able to get that compost down to only £1.27 per bag if bought in multiples of 4 at a 15% off promotion store.

 

Just picked a couple extra at the £1 price. Till said 1.99, displayed price said differently so we settled on a pound a bag :rasp:

 

I'm hoping to get a few bags next week, but the Wickes store I'm going to is still showing a whopping 425 bags in stock. I seem to recall being told by a Wickes member of staff about a problem with their online stock checker that can produce anomalies like this, so if they actually have none in stock I'll check whether the almost adjacent Bunnings sell 30L bags (Homebase sell 10L & 20L bags so maybe not) and if they do, I'll get them to beat Wickes price by 10%, getting it down to 1.79/30L, £1.19 for 20L, which is far cheaper than Wilkos £3 for 20L. EDIT: Bunnings fon't sell this seed and potting compost.

Pricing Policy | Price Guarantee - I really want to verify that they adhere to this policy, as I've read that in other countries they've tried excluding competitors reduced prices as 'clearance'. It remains to be tested.
