Not very good germination with the Kelsae? I found them a bit unreliable, when I grew them.

Didn't sow as many as the exhibition onions, not being good keepers :)

Hi I have excellent germination with the same seed ,as freddy says they can be difficult to germinate see below from a kelsae seed seller. I always use an heated propagator.
              Regards sandy
. Please note before you buy these seeds need a constant heat of 18c to germinate if sowing in the winter this means a heated propagator.

Mine germinated in an unheated greenhouse, but I am in zone 9a :spinning:

I have a conservatory which never drops below 12 degrees but find kesae's do not germinate well in that so they are germinated in an electric propagator at 20degrees.
see mine below I sowed approx. 50 seeds and have counted roughly 50 have germinated DSC00890.JPG

Just read the link on Freddy's post Johnsons seeds recommending 18 to 21 degrees for germinating Kelsae's. I have found that to be spot on having almost no germination in conservatory at 12 to 15 degrees overnight in previous years. Kesae onions seem to the exception to the rule on onion seed germination.
                  Regards Sandy

Agree with above about germination temp requiring 20-22C.

Only keeping the 10 best seedlings this year, mine are under grow lamps:

Much bigger than my January sown onions. I've swopped them over to under LEDs as I found they grew too soft/floppy under T5s for long periods.

This year I really want to save some bulbs to go to seed so I'll have free seeds for 2020 giant onions.
