Hideous presentation but just 10pence in my local CoOp! I was surprised to find that it had good roots so I bought it so that I can take some leaf cuttings in the spring.

I wandered around a different garden centre today. All plants are 70% off. If I’d have known I might have gone before. They didn’t have an awful lot left but they did have two plants on my wish list.

I spent a total of £3. The lithodora isn’t the heavenly blue but I’m sure it will be perfectly good enough. The lamium is going to have to stretch about 40 ft across the top of my drive. I think I will have to buy a few more when they come back in season.

I was going to repot them this morning but although the sun is bright, the wind is bitter and I have no where to shelter while I work. Maybe this afternoon the wind will die down.

Now I’m confused. I’ve just read an article that said lithodora requires acid soil and will not grow in clay. The same article says that hydrangeas fall into the same category. Both my neighbours grow hydrangeas very successfully. In the summer everybody cited lithodora as the must have ground cover plant. Have I bought the wrong thing?

And you can probably find sites that say alkaline, humus rich, full sun, dry or whatever!
My thoughts are that it likes acidic gritty soil as that would be similar to it's natural habitat (Greece, Turkey and that area) for it to do best. However, in real life like Hydrangea I think that you would find it quite an adaptable plant.

I called into Poundland. I was looking for plant pots that were inbetween the ones that I already have. My seedlings, currently in 9cm pots are ready for a step up.

I also bought a soil sieve. It came in two parts. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

@Jack Sparrow you can create the right soil conditions for the Lithodora but alternatively you could just put them in a pot with either ericaceous or peat based compost with some added grit. The pot could be buried if you really wanted a ground level display. Mine are both in pots.

I have cut it in half. One half I potted with ericaceous compost. The other half I potted with a mixture of multi purpose compost and soil from my garden. We will soon see if it survives or not.

                        A question for @ARMANDII please .

If i pot these up for now , ( they're large, will have to be 8/9" pots ), will they be alright in an unheated room or in a cold plastic greenhouse.

They'll be fine in a large pot, KFF, in a unheated light room or in a cold plastic Green House. I have a "Shirley Temple" Peony in a large pot outside and it's starting to show buds already. Don't forget that you don't bury Peonies and cover them in compost.

Thanks Armandii , I knew you'd be the one to help :)

I already knew about shallow planting etc as I've grown them before it's just that I've never bought them bare root before.
Each one has 3/4 eyes on it so they should be good.

You ( well the video actually ) has answered my other question as well I think. Where I want to put them has around 6 /7 hrs a day of sun, so this should be ok for them I think. I wasc
worried they had to go in full sun which I wouldn't be able to give them.

Today I was given a packet of Dutch Iris. I don’t have any ground space available at the moment so I bought a plastic trough to put them in.

When can I plant these out? I have read that they should be planted in Autumn. I also read that should be taken in during hot summers. What can I realistically expect from them?
