Does anyone else have one of these? It's a windowsill heated propagator that is great...or it was. After only a few years light use it appear to not be heating anymore so wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar? I definitely bought it somewhere online but I can't find the email receipt (everything but this!) and Garland have told me to go jump.

    Most frustrating!

I have had one of these for about 10 years (I think), base is still working as it should, and I still have the trays, but the lids have degraded and broken the last one a few weeks back.

I would contact them again, tell them we are discussing their good name here. They are sealed units so should be trouble free. You would think such a name as "Garland" would at the very least investigate and show some interest in their product failing.

      Do Garland not care?

      Steve...:)

Nope! Message from the MD simply stated it's warranted for 1 year and he's not willing to extend any goodwill. A real charmer.

Hmm, rather short sighted altho I suppose they could argue that you have had it for longer/used it much more than you say you have maybe? I have the big 3 1. Had it for 5 years and :fingers crossed: it's currently working. Is there some way of getting a replacement part/get it fixed without having to buy a whole new 1? I'd maybe ask and mention AGAIN this is being discussed on GC.
Oh @HarryS has just posted the answer re repair!

I've expressed disappointment in a very British way lol
Won't buy a replacement or recommend them to anyone but that's about all I can do. I'll take it apart later (looks like its clipped together) just to poke about

Well, my intention was to buy 7 new pots and lids (my lids are all broken) for mine in the coming weeks, but if that is their attitude to customer service, I'll manage just fine with pots and poly bags.

          There you go Garland..lost sale..

          Steve...:)

If it's any consolation at all, over the years I've had many propagators, including Stewart and Sankey, and not one of them lasted more than 4 years before the heating element packed up. In the end, I got a 'mini-frame' from Two Wests & Elliott in Chesterfield and built my own with a heating cable, polystyrene, foil and sand. Cold Frames - For Your Garden When I dismantled a couple of the Stewart ones, it was no wonder that they didn't last, given the pitifully thin, inadequate wiring arrangement underneath! If you've got even the most basic know-how, you can build something to last very easily.........

                Danger man lives ! ..

Should be well sealed units rather than just clipped for use in such a wet environment.

If you are into diy electrics then you could retro fit a fish tank / vivarium heater into your prop.
                eg this 15W unit
                Interpet Nano Heater 715W-Aquatics Warehouse

Better still if you add a thermostat as its so easy to overheat on a sunny window cill or greenhouse bench, my greenhouse prop up to 28c this morning, even though the heating switches off at 15c.

Oh I have a backup already, it's a thermostatically controlled Danke one but it's way too big for the windowsill
