I got these earlier this year, 40 seeds for 99p delivered VEGETABLE HOT CHILLI PEPPER SCOTCH BONNET RED 40 SEEDS ** FREE UK P&P** | eBay

Jury's out on them as they're the last to germinate of the 3 varieties I bought from Premier Seeds on ebay and sowed a short while ago, but a quick poke around with a seed label revealed a sprouting seed.

Had I considered growing them before, I would have ordered them earlier. As time is now pressing, I didn’t want to wait for delivery, hence looking for seed today. Easy enough to save seed for next year?

I think it's the fruitiness and flavour that makes them a key ingredient but I don't see why you couldn't try other varieties, you might improve the recipe!

My seedlings are on the windowsill in fully clear propagator boxes to maximise light, seems to be working OK.. . Jalapeno, Joe's long and Andhra

@Loofah , what are you growing the Chilli seeds in ? Is it kitchen towel ?
You have quite big seedlings there .

You saw the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion harvest in the 2017 thread. Here is one of them that I trimmed down to over-winter:

Yes, I sprouted them then moved to small pieces of rolled up kitchen towel with the roots tucked in and the rest poking up. First year trying this with the two kids as a clear propagator, seems to be going OK but they're not that big yet (pic must be deceptive) so not going as leggy as previous years

That's good to know. It's my first time with both "Hungarians". I think, living in the heart of Europe, I have to be pro-European!! :):heehee:

Seriously, I love pickled chillies, and even stuffed chillies, so they will be very popular here.

Here are the ‘Scotch Bonnets’ I bought last week. They’ve been potted on into 3” pots, in regular MPC.

                          978B851C-4CC0-4DBD-8CE1-E7CE89D65301.jpeg

At what point should I be thinking of feeding, and with what? Would they benefit from a root feed of some sort?

My understanding is that you should start feeding later in the year when they start to flower and fruit, that's what I do anyway, it could be completely wrong :heehee: There is a food called chilli focus but I just use tomato food, again could be completely wrong :snorky:
I hope someone can offer more helpful advice
Good luck with them anyway, they look great:dbgrtmb:

On the two occasions I’ve grown them in the past, that was pretty much what I did. I was a bit disappointed at the rate of growth, compared with some that others here grew. Just assumed that I must be doing something wrong. There could of course be other reasons, light and heat, for instance.

I agree, I think chillies are very much dependent on conditions. I've grown them for 10 years or more with varying success. I've heard people who swear by chilli focus and others who say tom food is just as good:dunno:
I always grow ' staples' I know will do well, then each year try a new to me one:).
I live in the north east so last frost is 1st June ish, I don't have a heated greenhouse or grow lights. My only south facing window is tiny but full of pots:biggrin:
I still usually get enough to go in the freezer to see me through the year:smile:
                                Trial and error :blue thumb:
