just as I was thinking of warm spring weather, esp after today's glorious sunshine, we are warned of an arctic blast starting the end of this week.
Very cold conditions even during daytime and lasting for a week or more so remember to make sure your plants are well wrapped. :)

I share your pain, @WeeTam - mine is on its last legs, despite a service last week. 24 years old and no parts available any longer..... :wallbanging:

And always happens just before a freeze. Parts arent a problem for me. Ive had a new motor, a new tiger loop, 2 new oil pumps, 4 visits and the tank now has water in it :yikes:

But what the hell, planted up more garlic, trimmed roses, spotted some new fish in the pond so all good :)

Regarding parts, ebay may come to your rescue :blue thumb:

Good idea. Hadn't thought about eBay. All I need is to figure out what is wrong, except old age. Owe it a bit of tlc, it has served us well!

You've had a productive day! After work I filled 4 seed trays with MPC ready to start seeds off in the house :hapydancsmil:

It's a sign of the times with boilers. They don't make them to last.
We moved into this house in 1972. It had a Glow Worm Majorca back boiler, with a gas fire on the front, this we never used. It must have been quite a few years old then. It worked perfectly well for years, the only parts it ever need was a new pump which I fitted myself and the gas jets changed FOC by the gas board when we went onto natural gas.
In 2002, it was still working perfectly. But we wanted to get rid of the hot water tank in the bathroom, so we went for a combi boiler and all new radiators. The boiler was a Worcester. In the last few years we had a lot of problems with it, apart from servicing it cost about £600 in parts.
So last year we had a new boiler. "We had to beat the old one to death with a lump hammer."

If you're with British Gas and pay for their boiler insurance as we were when we had the annual inspection twenty years ago, if they tell you they can't get the parts any more because they're made of "unobtainium," tell them as we did, "OK, stop taking the money each month."
Parts then miraculously became available again.

I have a shed next to my house. Am hoping it will be a few degrees warmer in there. My greenhouse is chocca, so put loads of my stuff in pots in the shed - ferns, palms etc. Not much light in there, but it will be better than being exposed to the elements outside for the week or so.

I seen a headline earlier.. "Cornwall are to have 3ft of snow" @Verdun

@Doghouse Riley I was told the same thing about my boiler from British gas when I had homecare! My boiler was only 7 years old at the time.

Thankfully, my boiler troubles are sorted I had a new one installed about 3 weeks ago on a green deal.. worth looking into @WeeTam ?

Bring on this snow.. :th scifD36:

It's quite cold tonight, but we've been promised some sunshine and it'll be about 5 degrees by around 9.00 a.m., when I hope to be on the first tee. But I'll be taking with me a flask of hot Bovril with a dash of chili powder. We never worry about the cold, as long as you're wrapped up well, you don't even notice it.

British gas really annoyed me. With the old back boilers, the boiler itself was made of cast iron, there's very few parts other than, the jets a thermostat, an ignighter, a timer and a pump.

In "the old days," the BG engineers wanted to keep the boilers going as they provided work for them. It was the sales people who would press the public to buy a new boiler. Then things changed, they must have put the engineers on commission to talk you into a new boiler when they came to conduct a service.
