Went over the Amazonian Delta aka my lawn with a fork, dribbling 10kg sand into the holes. :) Tried not to step on our Red Robin who is now very friendly as we seem to share an interest in digging holes into the ground and getting worms up.

Watched Robin and Mrs Robin "play" [IMG]

Been in Japan this week and have been exploring Tokyo's city gardens whilst Mr Snorks has been working. I wasnt initially that keen on japanese gardens but have found them inspiring! So tranquil away from the hectic city. They are beautifully kept! Even found some early blooming cherry blossom-what a bonus! Just thought id share a couple of piccies for anyone who is interested :)

First thought? Plastic is so O.U.T. :nonofinger: ... get some metal ones from the charity shops instead ;) :heehee: Never had a problem with raccoons since I used metal ones

#9: Crushed Eggshells - use them a lot, but, I oven bake them first ;)
The claim about snails though is not factual. I recall seeing a programme explaining that the thickness of the skin on snails is thick enough to withstand it and also the barbs/thorns on plants. Still worth a go though because the eggshells not only add a decorative top, but are also biodegradable.

#5: Nothing new about using the water from boiled eggs on your plants - usually advised for houseplants.
Nothing new about using vegetable water on your garden plants either. I used to make "vegetable tea" for watering my garden years back (even used the peelings) - around the same time I was splitting used teabags to sprinkle around roses.

Then, I got a life :heehee:

The "robotic" voice on that video was hard going on the ears.

Quite envious of your experience. Sadly we won't get the chance to go. I've long been interested in Japanese gardens and also Japanese religious architecture, ceramics and koi carp.

They love their cherry blossom, don't they?

Too many videos of interesting topics, spoilt where the person making it "has to get in on the act," but that's YouTube for you.

Well I ventured out doors today as it was warmer than I thought and what I did.. most members might think it was wrong:whistle:

After cleaning the bird bath out and refilling it...I sat there looking at my bottle brushes on the back, so I took a really good look at them besides scrapping lightly and there was still pale green leaves at the bottom underneath the large growth where the rest was dead.

So it was either watch the weather kill them or try and save them and I just :wub2:them as you know :)...so I clipped away all the dead growth and the alive growth underneath I shaped in to a ball again on both of them, then I put bags over them with holes already in, so they still get air plus protection against the cold weather.

Cleared the mess from last weeks buddleia pruning adventures; vague attempts to burn it came to nothing - just too green I think, and no space to get a big hot bonfire going - so it's been cut up into bits and boxed in the lean to to dry out. Not sure how successful that will be, but hopefully might get one good fire out of it before the summer is out...

Turned over the compost bin and was pleasently surprised to find that it is actually full of compost! It's a dalek-style bin on solid concrete, and I've not been that precious about what goes in it, but it seems to have turned out pretty well. Started sieving, but my shoulders and my cheap plastic sieve were not up for the job today, so attempt two tomorrow.

The waterlily is in desperate need of splitting - it was climbing out the edges of the pond last year. Is now a good time to do so or should I wait until this cold snap has passed?
