Been building a bird box this afternoon from a left over pallet. I haven't fixed the roof on yet , not sure if to make it a bit longer and use a thinner wood, I haven't left enough room at the top to screw it on the shed really so the thinner wood would help. Got some felt to put on it as well.

@Doghouse Riley ... I was hoping you would be able to help Luci to sort out the levels. I think the main difficulty is the fact that the project is on a slope - quite a steep one at that, which means that one side will appear too high - obviously. It rather looks like the helper is trying to form some kind of ''collar'' with the loose blocks on the lower side.

            Yes you were.

The "fact" was that you quoted my suggestions and were criticising them. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.

Well I was doing my best!

It would also concern me that there is quite a slope down to the pool. Care will be needed to ensure any run off from higher ground doesn't end up in the pool. But as I said, it's difficult to visualise it completely from the photos provided.

No i was stating facts and having my own opinion on the subject just because you think a pond needs a concrete collar its not essential,

My point was, why complicate matters when there is no need for a concrete collar just because you have one , Luci is struggling enough as we can see and your making matter worse, then want to cause a argument like you have elsewhere,

This is my last post on the matter you can argue with yourself :rasp:

Personally as mentioned is having an opinion not criticism

Grow up Martin. You wouldn`t rate a helpful post with ''funny'' if you were not being critical and childish.

The only practical way of getting a pond level, even with a steep slope, is to use a long Spirit Level and either one long piece of wood
                        [IMG]

or several identical shorter stakes marked to, say 4 inches from the bottom. Hammer the stakes into the ground to the mark, use the spirit level placed on a long piece of wood along the stakes raising or lowering the stakes until the "bubble" in the Spirit Level is in the middle. Then take the edge of the pond down or up to the mark on the stakes...........and you've got a level pond. I used the second method due to the length and width of my pond. It takes a little time and effort but works a lot better than trying to dig a level pond using just your eyes.:coffee::snorky:

RHS has it down to -10 or -15, Blue Fortune much lower. I've mulched too but with grit, as I'm more worried about the wet and cold doing the damage rather than the temp. Fingers crossed for you in the North, I forgot to take cuttings

I think such "exchanges" are not helpful either to GC or, more importantly, to lucius, so let's just get back to helping each other with good advice and much needed Bon Homie.:dunno::coffee::snorky: Perhaps the seemingly unending Winter cold and darkness is chilling our usual warmth to each other.
