No snow today so far. Misty first thing and grey clouds since. No sun. Fingers crossed for tonight.

Snow began melting around 0230hrs - "drip, drip, drip, drip" - the day has been mild with most of the snow melted by teatime. Some rain after sunset, but none now.

Temperature got as high as +1 today. Gentle snow flurries all morning, although no more laid. More due in the morning. Main roads are clear but the paths are still nasty. The snow in the garden isn't melting at all. We've got some fab icicles though :snorky:

                  Completely clear of snow.
I know some areas are still bad, but the constant attention in the media seems rather over the top.
Working in Manchester in the mid sixties, I occasionally had to drive over to Oldham. For those unaware of distances here, "no more than a bus ride away." It wasn't uncommon in March and even April when the weather wasn't at all bad locally, to notice a rather unobtrusive sign in the town on the main road heading out over the Pennines which had an alternative message which could be displayed. Either "Snake Pass, Open/Closed." It was a surprise to see it say "closed," on occasions and not have read anything in the papers or seen anything about it on the news.

How is it for you now? Any signs of a reprieve?
Way, way, south of you, we have had some sun this morning; briefly. All the snow has gone (apart from one pile where son deposited the snow he cleared from the paths). It's looking very grey outside now, but the forecast is for rain and those cruel winds left two days ago. Temperatures are up with highs of 7 degrees forecast. However, for some of the untreated roads - often lined with hedging/trees, so lying in shade - there are still warnings around.

Thank you very much for your concern @"M" . Luckily for us the neighbouring farmer has been able to clear most of our road with his large tractor and bucket late yesterday. Thank god as the council are not coping unsurprisingly and husband is going down with this flu thing daughter and I have (we are getting better). Husband is 75 and has a few health issues so could become quite ill. Trying to get an ambulance here pre the farmer doing his good deed would have been impossible and with the drifts as severe as they are unless things warm up considerably they will be hanging about for many weeks.
The farmers in these parts are really struggling to get to all their livestock. Most of the morning another farmer has been rescuing his sheep from the field opposite us who were stuck in deep drifts and weigh down by their fleeces AND the fact they are just about to lamb, not good. Thanks god he is a huge unit of a man as the strength needed to haul the poor things out of the snow must be huge. I just hope the ewes will have enough energy to lamb.
My friend who farms in Coldingham has hardly slept for days as she has Aberdeen Angus who normally cope no bother with the weather, it's all the damned pipes to the water troughs which have frozen and despite the weather, cattle need a lot of water to drink. Her house is freezing as she has to keep the window in the kitchen open and run a hose through it to fill massive water tanks to fill the troughs. These are all the things people in towns don't perhaps consider when they are tucking into their steaks.... farming doesn't stop like office jobs when the weather gets bad , the opposite, it can become a 24/7 affair. Unfortunately it is still quite cold here with little/no snow melt. Hoping for better next week but could be worse...just!
