Please can all dog owners be extra careful to keep control of your dogs if you are walking them anywhere near sheep.
In the county I live in I know of at least 8 sheep that have either been killed or had to be PTS as so badly injured by dogs in the last week. This is the main lambing season when heavily pregnant sheep can't move that quickly and I for 1 would not have fancied having to run for my life when heavily pregnant!
Dogs can often start to chase sheep as a little bit of fun and then it gets out of hand and a normally placid well natured dog can turn quickly into a killer.
If you see any lose dogs in fields with sheep please do try and alert the farmer by calling at a farmhouse. Often you may not get the right farmhouse to where the sheep belong but the chances are it will be known who the sheep belong to. Thanks

I was chatting to a person a few days ago and they seen some sheep out and reported it to the farmer but they didn't tell the farmer that their dog also chased the sheep that were out, so you should always becarefull

I must add that some farmers around here have very poor fencing, animals always out from the fields, also the same farmer will shoot any dog that chases he's animals but he also will not get his sheep back in and keep them in

Also if you see any sheep on their backs as they will die

I was sat in the corner of a field having a drink last year and a clump of sheep came over and bleated at me to come and put their mate the right way up

Are you sure they were not bleating: "Stop drinking that ... look what happened to our mate after *she* drank some!"

Seen on our walk in the Lake District.
The Lake District is very dog friendly ,most hotels welcome them.
So alas this can be the downside.

In the Lakes they quite often have signs saying "any dog caught bothering the sheep will be shot.

I've mentioned this a few times on here. It's the lily pollen that's dangerous so, if you do have lilies, remove the staymens and any sign of pollen, from them. Removing them also increases the time that the flowers will remain in bloom.
