    Had a look through T & M's catalogue on-line.

    Not a lot of choice.

Then I thought I'd check eBay.

More choice there... like 738 of 'em.

Some good prices and plenty of suppliers with great feedback percentages on huge numbers of sales.

Taylor's has a good reputation and their website is great. Lots of choice, information and advice :)
I haven't used them myself but only because I can't whittle my choices down to less than I can accommodate :rolleyespink:

Best to buy 2 year old plants. The really cheap plants are only rooted cuttings and best avoided, IMO. Pay a bit more for established plants; they will reward you more quickly. Taylor’s is good, also Richard Hodson clematis grower who I have bought from. Google him, Hawthorn Nursery.

I've bought most of my clematis "the really cheap plants" from Morrisons for the past few years and have had great success with all of them.

          For example (bought/planted summer 2016) April 2017
          alpina Francis Rivis

Guernsey Cream (bought 2016; photo May 2017)

"Dark Eyes" (bought 2016; photo, July 2017)

          DSCN0012 (1024x768).jpg

They were less than £2 each and I've had no problems with them, only glorious flowers after less than one years wait.

Maybe you should give one a try @Redwing ?

The only two places I would recommend are Taylor's and Richard Hodson, I know both very well.
Taylors do seem to be a little more expensive than Richard. But are still quality plants. Both do mail order.

But they only sell 2 year old plants.

@Doghouse Riley, Hawthorn Nursery is in Hesketh Bank near Southport, it is by appointment only. Really friendly guy and free advice always given, he does clematis you wont find in Morrisons or Tescos.

What type of clematis are you looking for, early flowering, mid summer are late flowering.

I must have about 150 clematis in my garden

Virginia creeper is a stunning plant the autumn colouring is incredible although short lived, before they start dropping .
I have bought Clematis from Ebay and the Asda /Morrisons etc ones. These are a great deal but best to bring on in a pot for 1 year. Just bought one called Darius on Friday for 2 quid. :blue thumb:
I bought 4 from Taylors Clematis last autumn as I wanted patio clematis max height 2 metres for a container going over a trellis . The Taylors search engine soon sorted out what was available ( lots !)
The plants are all over two years old , were well packed and promptly delivered.

I'm stunned with the look of Francis Rives; it's a good one and if I saw one for only £2 I'd probably buy it, even if it meant waiting a year for the flowers.

I've bought from Richard too and he is very helpful and makes good suggestions. He's even given me clematis' for free. They are always strong healthy plants.

It's budding up nicely right now and puts on a beautiful Spring show. Whether usual or not, I'm not sure, but it also made a valiant effort to put on a late Summer offering too. Couldn't really call that effort a "show", more of a "trailer" if you see what I mean :heehee:

there is so many interesting ones out there. we have a few. but not like a friend of mine who lives in Ohio. I believe she put out a book on them. anyway. I like the idea of choosing those first that have a nice scent, and then choosing several to have some blooming all season in turn.

But a relative novice here with about 20 but love 'em all. Top 5 favourites? And do you have a preferred way of displaying them? :)
