My wife and I once watched a world cup cycling event in Manchester. It was good fun. Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton were both competing .

I remember Cactus Jack starring Kirk Douglas being a B movie. Rather silly but good clean fun.

What annoys me is the style of modern day presentation of some sports.
I always thought the idea of showing sport on TV was to enable people who were unable to attend for a variety of reasons, to enjoy the event and the atmosphere.

There's no "atmosphere" in a studio. When there's no action at particular moments I'd much rather the cameras focused on the spectators, what was going on elsewhere in the venue etc., so viewers can get the feel of the experience. I really dislike "punditry," yes it's relatively cheap and helps fill the schedules, but if viewers are prepared to spend hours watching a particular sport they don't need to be spoon-fed so much information.
The BBC always miss a trick with the red button coverage of track cycling. If there's nothing going on we get silence and a long shot of the arena, they might as well show us wallpaper.

The "Golden Couple" are returning this week.

Laura rides in the team pursuit on Wednesday and Thursday and Jason in the team sprint on Wednesday. I read that Jill Douglas and Chris Hoy will be presenting, so thankfully, no Clare Balding to hog the camera.

        5USA are repeating daily the Jesse Stone series at around mid-day. I watched them all first time round and recorded them all the second time, I liked them that much. He's a police chief in a small town called Paradise. It's not a "shoot-em up" sort of drama. No action that seems implausible. Good plots, as he would say;

"The information's out there, you only have to let it in."

I guess you'd have to like Tom Selleck to watch it. I also liked him in "Blue Bloods" which has just finished.

I'm not a great fan of too many "shoot 'em up" and CGI action films.

A favourite of mine is on Film4 tonight at 7.05 pm. Bruce Willis has a "non-all action small part" as do a few well known actors.

The stars are the kids, it's funny and has some Enid Blyton like moments.

If you've not seen it Here's the trailer.

Been watching Shakespeare and Hathaway Private investigators.
Didn't think that it would be very good, but it is.

Also the x files, pity it's on ch 5. The adverts put me off.

Rex Harrison in the Movie "The Rake's Progress." (1945) Talking Pictures, this afternoon.

Sent down from university, he's useless, but is sent to the family plantation in South America, to give him something to do.

          A scene I remember.
Attending a meeting with the rest of the management, the Chairman expresses concern that tea sales globally were outselling those of coffee.

"So gentlemen what does this tell us?"

No one says anything until Rex Harrison slaps his thigh and calls out

          "We're in the wrong business!"

I have to confess, my most favourite gardening "programme" doesn't feature on the TV at all

Sunday would not be "Sunday" without tuning in to my local Radio station. The Sunday Gardening programme is, in my view, a not to be missed event. I do enjoy Monty, GW et al but when it comes to *local* gardening, my radio show is my go-to space.

I've met two of the most prolific "guest speakers" and have followed their advice on plants I have in my garden with much success. Learned a lot, benefitted more and the humour makes me chuckle every time I think of them. :heehee:
