I really think I should feed the garden now as everything is starting to bud, but we have had so much rain lately and are due more again tomorrow and the only feed I have is liquid seaweed, which obviously has to be watered in.

Would it hurt to wait a couple more weeks to start feeding the garden, or should I just do it regardless of how wet the soil is, because it's the right time?? Or should I be using something else to feed the garden which does't need to be watered in??

      Hiya Sally :)
You dont say what the garden is......shrubs,,perennials, veg, fruit??

I would use a granular feed; I use fish blood and bone because it is organic. Can you get hold of a granular feed? Or use chicken pellets? It is also suitable for most everything. Now is a good time to do it and scratch it into the soil around plants.
The rain will wash it in

You can use your liquid seaweed feed.....I would spray it on the foliage....but I find this good to use in summer for plants in containers.

If the soil is saturated, wait for a week or two to dry out a little. Keep off wet soil anyway.
      Hope this helps Sally:)

        Hi Verdun, :)

My garden is mainly young shrubs, but I also have a young yew and hawthorn, clematis and some roses.

Yes I think I will buy some fish, blood and bone powder tomorrow and just sprinkle some of that over the whole garden. But the soil is very damp (Although at least it's a sandy soil which drains quickly!), so I might have to wait to do some of it so I don't compact the soil too much.

I'll probably spray some of the seaweed fertiliser on the foliage of my plants too, soon. We've had so much rain over the winter, so I expect the soil is now quite poor in nutrients. :frown:

Thanks for your helpful reply! :blue thumb:

Sally, dont just sprinkle fish blood and bone. Use a hand held cultivator or back of a fork to tickle/scratch it into the soil
My soil is sandy too ....it will be fine to feed now. Have fun! :)

Sally don't sprinkle BFB if you have a dog . They think you have buried sausages everywhere and start digging up the beds . I just use GrowMore fertiliser .
