Which tomato grow bag

Hi all my local what shop has got tomorite and grow sure tomato grow bags both are at 2 for £8 which would you recommend or something different from elsewhere for similar price

I used to buy grow bags but take the compost out and fill pots with them to grow my tomatoes in.

Over the last couple of years I've filled my pots with Levington with added John Innes compost. Which always worked very well.

This year I'm going to have a bash of making my own tomato compost.

I'm still forming the mixture in my head but it's basically going to be equal amounts of Jacks Magic and John Innes No.3. With a sprinkling of Bone, Fish and Bone and perlite.
I might add some water crystals too.

I ditched grow bags a few years back.
I make up my own compost and plant tomatoes in 10 litre pots.
Isn't it great to talk about growing toms? Makes the summer ever closer

 

I eventually will grow in my own compost but just not got the time this year as I’m still trying to get the beds ready and finishing the greenhouse ready for some nice weather (fingers crossed)
Thanks for that @Gail_68 I bought a couple of the tomorite giant tomato bags thankfully have only used a little of one bag will take them bag and get the grow sure ones
I’ve used part of the tomorite grow bag to pot up a couple of my tomatoes what do you think I should do with them

 

May I ask what tomato compost mix do you use?

I use john innes no 3 and mpc 50/50, by eye. I add about 10% perlite or grit, fish blood and bone and chicken pellets. It gives weight, drainage and nutrient value and works for me. It doesn't dry out too quickly as mpc does
I also spray tomato plants in spring and early summer with diluted skimmed milk. An epsom salt spray a couple of times and then a seaweed based tomato feed once a week in summer.

Probably time and convenience comes into it Verdun. Truthfully I have often wondered why some go to extra expence buying grow bags. For those interested. Tomatos prefer a pH level of between 5.5 and 7.5 so quite a margin. I have actually seen heavily fruited plants growing on waste ground.
Like you Verdun, If being an allround gardener then I'd make use of a general purpose compost which is around pH7 and add feeds etc.

 

I grow the vast majority of my Tomatoes in soil in the greenhouse. Ok it means I need to take out say a bucket load of growing medium from the holes where the plants have been at the end of the season but my method vastly reduces the need to water daily. I grow about 25 cordons and it would take me a fair while to water those continually. With loads of manure/compost and leaf mould used to replace the soil taken out and the beds dug over during the winter, this works for me and I get huge crops even up here near the Arctic Circle!
