Only the bits under the snow were damp, the rest was dry as a bone :dbgrtmb: it would be a shame to leave some grass uncut

No time to garden here today but I will pop in to cut my niece's lawn. Maybe later I will cut my own lawns
I may pop in on Burncoose Nurseries though......on my way and may be tempted to purchase something.:)

Potting up my plug plants from Brookside today . This afternoon I may tidy/organise the space I have at the back of the shed to grow a few veg again . Just onions and spuds , I still think the Tesco/Asda method for veg is best :snorky:

Well i've been to Albrighton garden centre..no standard Viburum Tinus...so tried 3 down bridgenorth ...the one had nothing and the main one i ususally attend wanted a normal plant for £29-99 so i went to the last garden centre and there's was bigger for £15-99...so i've had two to replace my bottle brushes as these fight any weather but i'm going to shape them myself...they're only the normal plant but you can cut them in to shape like a conifer, as they grow quite good :)

WOweeee what a lovely day it has been today. Sunshine and blue skies all day! Was outside by 8:30am and up at the lotty...covering the rhubarb to force it and covered some of the beds to warm the ground.

30 second walk back to the house and I weeded 80% of the front garden. Round the back and I pruned all the budleias back and weeded one of the beds in the sunny border. Planted up another clematis cartmanii avalanche that I got off the market as the one I bought last year is brilliant. Also planted some primulas I got at the market too. I'm absolutely shattered now - only just sat down to eat some dinner and now got to hoover and mop inside. Time for a brew!

Sowed Rosada [Chinese and Brunei sourced], Ailsa Craig, Moneymaker, Alicante and Shirley Tomato seeds in trays and then placed them into heated propagators. Then I sowed two varieties of Lupins [The Governor and Tutti Frutti], Large Flowered Echinacea, Verbena, two varieties of Cosmos, and put them into propagators. I've still got Asters, French Lavender, Lupin Pixie Delight, Eschscholzia Orange King, Zinnia, Hollyhock, Aquilegia Lime Sorbet, and Aubrietia which will be sown by the weekend in trays and put in propagators. After an amble around the garden I decide to prune the Blue flowered Buddleia which always makes me cough and choke due to the fine pollen still on the shrub. I've still got the white flowered Buddleia and the Buddleia Globosa to prune..........another day :coffee::snorky:

Despite my best intentions I didn't get any work done in the garden this morning. It was annoying as the weather was fabulous for gardening. The sun was shining and there was a gentle (If cold) breeze. Unfortunately work got in the way. :frown:

Before tea I manage to get an hour in. I had a play with my new riddle. My soil pile is now 2 wheel barrow loads smaller than it was before.

My main planting area was rather compacted so I went over it with a fork. It will need a fair bit of prodding and bashing before it's fine enough to do anything with.

I took these picture today of my 2 campanulas

Before the snow they were both doing ok. The second one is still looking impressive. It's at least twice the size as was when I planted it there last summer. The ones in the garden centre are all in full bloom. Hopefully mine won't be far away.

The reason I took this photo to was to highlight the proximity of it to the crocus. I will have to make a point of rearranging the bulbs to allow the perennials room to spread.

                          G.

Soil looks good to me Gary......the weather is warming and drying the soil now so it will start breaking down quickly. Just keep off it when soil is wet and work on it only when it is dry
Those campanulas will be ok......the snow won't have damaged them. Crocus will happily co exist with those campanulas.
If mine, I would divide those campanulas into 2 or 3 clumps ...slice down with a sharp knife...and replant as a group. Now is an ideal time for this as those clumps will grow fast.:)

I didn't do anything in the garden today, I played golf, first time for a week but I had a chat with the head green keeper whilst he was on the course. He'll always stop whatever bit of equipment he's driving to talk to you if you want him to. As far as lawn treatment is concerned I always follow him, in that I treat it when I see he has treated the greens. I'd noticed that the greens were a bit greener today and asked him what he'd done as I thought it a bit early. He told me all he'd done was to add a bit of treatment to them, just to green them up a bit as they looked a bit dull after all the snow, it was just a bit of cosmetics and wouldn't have been of much benefit to the roots.
I'm going to wait until mid-April before I do the lawn.

I've been bangin' on about getting a soluble weed feed and moss kill. I don't like the granular stuff as it's easy to burn the grass.

B&Q have it still on their website, but it's discontinued and they haven't had any stock for two years.

But Homebase stock this and it's only ten minutes down the road from us.

Touch wood, I only need a spot lawn weedkiller here and never need to use a moss killer so a straight fertiliser for me.:)
I will apply a liquid nitrogen feed in a couple of weeks then apply a granular one a month later.
A friend of a friend is a green keeper too and these guys know their stuff.
Isnt it great though to be talking about feeding the grass? A sure sign winter is fading!

Re golf. Never really a player but was roped in at uni as a caddy for a friend and county player. I could never putt but could outdrive my friend....my only claim to glory as a "golfer"
