Funnily enough, just been outside and given the 9 conifers around the house perimeter a trim. They make me so itchy!!!

@Snorky85 this may be your reason :)

People who develop sensitivities to pine allergens can have allergic reactions from touching, inhaling or consuming these allergens. Pine species with light pollen grains may cause hay fever symptoms, whereas heavy sap is more apt to produce allergic manifestations upon contact with skin. People with pine allergies may react to any member of the genus Pinus -- evergreen conifers that include white bark pine, ponderosa pine and balsam fir, a popular Christmas tree. Pine nuts come from commercially grown pine trees, and rare but very serious allergic reactions to pine nuts have been reported.

Gail, I havent really stopped mowing over the winter. Grass grows almost non stop here :)

Snorky, I think conifers harbour dust and similar, hence your itching/sneezing. I love the smell from the foliage when trimming/shaping conifers. :)

Sorry to disappoint you. :noidea: :snorky:

Most mornings I have a mango and a bowl of porridge. :blue thumb:

Lunches are light - unless I'm going out - and usually a roll with either cheese, egg or smoked salmon. Dinner is the big meal and I could be having almost anything. :heehee:

I'm allergic to conifers andcome up in a rash unless I cover up. I always work in the garden with long sleeves and gloves (and clothes on my naughty bits :snorky:). I also have to be careful with the leaves of tomatoes and courgettes. :dunno:

The very worst plant for causing itching etc. for me is Fremontodendron. Beautiful thing but bad for the eyes, skin and nose. Got rid eventually

Considering I spent around 3 hours in the garden today I don't seem to have done very much. Moved the pots and chairs off the patio to continue cleaning the slabs. The patio is in a terrible state, lots of slime and moss and general detritus. I had forgotten what colour the slabs are as I haven't seen them for so long :hate-shocked:. Then messed about with plants for awhile. Planted two Scabious into the border where sink pond is, a tiny Aqualegia down by pond out front. Removed some plants from their pots and replanted together into a larger pots. I now have 4 less pots to water :hapydancsmil:. Peered into the big pond five times today, no idea why really as nothing has changed yet. Pruned my two dwarf Buddleia

Freemontedendron (one of my favourites) has minute hooked barbs that are extremely thin. They can hook on to you without you even nonticing - at first! They cover the outer casing of the flower before opening and the seed cases. I always recommend that people that have dogs shouldn't grow them. Dogs tend to get them stuck on their noses. Cats tend to leave them alone.

They are also fast growing and can easily become a tree before you realise. Still worth having in the garden :blue thumb:

I do too - reminds me of lemon balm.

I was well covered today but still managed to get a bit itchy. I trimmed them in the summer wearing a tshirt and I had a really bad hot itchy rash for about 2 weeks! Awful.

I might give the lawn another cut tomorrow, just to encourage the growth. But if it rains....I won't bother!
