Bargain Cheapest Top Top Quality Rhubarb Crowns

I ordered these Rhubarb crowns here is the link Hayloft Plants expecting something a bit scraggly for £1.50 each - what I got was two BIG crowns with leaves and shoots (1 pictured below just after unpacking it!) - the crowns must have been at least 1 if not 2 years old. I have NEVER seen such good quality rhubarb crowns for so cheap - I'm sure the offer must be a loss leader or mistake - so grab these while you can - I'm sure they'll take the offer down soon. (After my first 2 arrived I ordered another 10 for my allotment)

If the tiles behind that plant are 100mm/4" square, then that's a very good size compared to the snippets from Wiko that have been hanging around warm stores and often fail to thrive, even when you've carefully examined every packet to only select the best.

6 plants @ 2.99 for 2, less 10% for email signup = £8.07, plus £4.95 p&p = £13.02 = only £2.17 each, a very good price for starting a decent sized rhubarb bed.

 

Yes Scrungee they are actually 5" square tiles so that makes them even bigger - as I said they are the best rhubabrb crowns I've ever had (they are already throwing out new leaves a couple of days after planting)and for that price if you buy a few or even (as I did with my first order) combine them with some other bits and bobs you are getting an amazing deal - Scrungee - you seem to have lots of authority on this site compared to me being a newbie here - please let as many of our fellow GYO enthusiasts know about this as possible before Hayloft take it down

 

Just wondering if any of you tried this offer and what if you received rhubarb crowns as big as mine? ;-)

 

My plant is just showing signs of life i put a bucket over it a few weeks ago, bought it last year from a local garden center from memory it was about £5.

 

Nice picture - I love this time of year - when all the dormant plants start budding - really gets my heart racing!!

 

Yes its nice to see things coming to life , should i be watering the crown water can get down side of the bucket but not on the crown wasn't sure if it should be watered ?

 

As long as the soil around it is moist - you should be fine - rhubarb can rot from overwatering - an easy mistake to make

 

Many thanks i will keep lifting the bucket and keep a eye on it, its a wonder i didn't kill it last year then i am always out with the hosepipe i will back off this year.

 

Well i got a massive rhubarb crown for.......FREE! ha ha found it dumped on a pile of allotment waste so I half inched it. Growing like a beauty under a bucket at the moment

 

Yes - it's always amazes me what people throw away on allotments - I often have a root around for plants - In fact my best spade came from an allotment "rubbish" pile!!
