Just watched a movie on Blu-ray called
Inception, very good. It was two and a half hours long.
We had a intermission to go to the loo and have a cup of tea.:)

Nothing I'd recently recorded to watch much today.

So....I've just watched (again) The Blue Dahlia, which I recorded from Film 4. It's one of my many film noir, which I save.

It stars Alan Ladd with Veronica Lake. She made several films with him. I've VHS videos or recordings of several. They were ideally suited as she was only about 5ft tall.

      coming_soon_veronica_lake_robert_odierna_criminal_movie_reviews1.jpg

She had a very colourful life.

She was that popular in the war years that she changed her trademark peek-a-boo hairstyle at the urging of the government to encourage women working in war industry factories to adopt more practical, safer hairstyles. Although the change helped to decrease accidents involving women getting their hair caught in machinery, doing so may have damaged her career.

In later life she suffered from alcoholism, which eventually led to her death in 1970 at the age of 51.

This is from another film in which she starred with Ladd.

He also did a bit of singing, in this "soundy."
      With Rita Rio's all-girl band.

I've just watched 'Patagonia' on BBC2. An excellent documentary and, I think, part of a series.

It's a fascinating country that I wouldn't mind going back to. :blue thumb: It's a few years since we've been there but I don't think it would have changed :heehee:

We didn't get photos that looked anything like the wild life ones they took! Although the scenery was spectacular. We got the usual photos of llamas and some nice ones of the Magellanic Penguins which I think they may be showing next week (not my photos :snorky:).

Watching the programme on Patagonia, I was impressed by the parrots who nest in the sandstone cliff faces by the shore who fly many miles inland for food and water for their chicks.
If there's not enough wind to turn the vanes of a wind pump. Several perch on a vane to make it turn and pump up some water.

Burrowing parrots jump start a water pump

They're cute and intelligent but I'm a bit suspicious of the putting together of those three separate clips. :th scifD36: That's a lot of water for one turn of the wind vane. I think they would need to be landing on it and turning it a number of times before there would be a solid flow like that. :noidea:

It puts me in mind of my recent trip to Rajastan where we had something that also made me suspicious. We stopped on the road through the desert scrubland region and our guide showed us how they irrigate the fields. They draw the water up by bullock driven water pump.

                          P1370924.JPG

                          P1370934.JPG

I was quite impressed until I noticed that the water buckets were dry :rolleyespink:

                          P1370925.JPG

                          P1370926.JPG

So I had a look down the well and saw that the buckets didn't reach the water and that there was an electric pump down there :snorky:

I suppose it's an extra little bit of income for the farmer to have tourists brought there but it doesn't work so well when the water levels are low!
