and we thought at one time "built in obsolescence" was restricted to American cars back in the sixties. Well that was the first time I'd heard any reference to the words.

I mentioned on another thread. We had a new kitchen in 2007, with mostly new appliances.
Since then we've had to replace the kettle, toaster and fridge/freezer.
The washing machine twice, (to be fair the present one was replaced under guarantee with a week of purchase).
The oven and the dishwasher, three times.

Phoning Miele to find out roughly when they would be delivering our replacement fridge/freezer tomorrow, (late tomorrow afternoon) I had the usual fifteen minute wait before I actually was able to speak to a real person. During this time I, as would any caller, was subjected to a repetitive four-bar dirge of dire electronic music. I think this is designed to put people off hanging on. As soon as someone answered and they had to put me on hold why the contacted another department, the music changed to something more soothing.

Flipping 'eck, Jiffster! If a Global Recession is coming simply because you are not going to buy anything for a long time ... I dread to think how much you've been spending!!! :hate-shocked: :thud: :love30:

I drink some filter coffees but have also used Gold Blend instant coffee for hell it must be nearly 40 years. I did not know that Nescafe in their wisdom changed the recipe for Gold Blend recently.
I bought 6 jars of the new recipe coffee about 3 weeks ago and used the 1st 1 ,,,thinks this is pretty dire but maybe dud jar. Nope 2nd jar the same disgusting stuff with dregs in the bottom of the cup obviously trying to pretend to be ground coffee. Who the hell wants dregs/grit in the bottom of a cup of instant? probably something you sit on's idea in an ivory tower somewhere in a large advertising agency!
I have spoken with Nescafe customer services and it was very obvious from the person's attitude that I was not the 1st to complain and they, while not able to come straight out and say it, agreed the new version was anything but improved. They are sending me a prepaid box to send the 4 unopened jars back to them and will refund me for the purchase.
Really cross as I now have no idea which, if any instant is remotely similar to the old much enjoyed Gold Blend. Any suggestions as off to buy coffee later on today?

@silu try Sainsbury's Gold Roast. It's very similar to the old Gold blend and half the price.

@silu i couldn't agree more, I'm throwing half cups of coffee away because of it . I used to occasionally buy kenco so might give that another try. Will also try the Sainsbury's one, thanks @shiney :blue thumb:

Thanks @shiney. Would have to be Sainsbury's which are somewhat thin on nthe ground in these parts. There is 1 on the way to Edinburgh so will get pal to get me a jar when she is passing tomorrow.

@silu , try Camp cofffe . Anything you try after this would taste wonderful :snorky:
Haven't seen it since the 1950's , not sure it is still available. The label would not be very PC !
