Still in bed-absoluely shattered from being at the allotment yesterday. Planted the tatties then dug over my neighbours solid bed which had dozens of massive red ants nests in it, not to mention the thick weeds. Got it all dug over and left the rhubarb. Going to put some ant powder on it today and dig it some colpost. Going to use that bed for cut flowers.

I've been putting off feeding as i didnt think it was warm enough yet. Might chuck mine a handful and see the reaction.

They look very pretty Verdun :wub2:, but I'm not sure the mound would be moisture retentive enough. I was originally going to plant wild flowers on this mound so raked in some gravel and sand. Then decided, after buying the grasses, that I wasn't sure about the wild flowers and that maybe I might want to plant ornamental flowers amongst the grasses. The wild flowers I grew last year were quite short and delicate, so I wondered if they might get a little lost amongst 3 - 6 ft high grasses. Anyway, point is that mound might be a bit on dry side, even though I've now added more compost to it.

I've got four Eryngiums, do you think they would sit well with the grasses or would they be too pale? Also got two Heleniums ( can buy more ).

Eryngiums are perfect with grasses lucius. I have a group of E. Big Blue with Stipa Tennuissima here. They like similar conditions so your mound sounds ideal :)
Heleniums require moisture in the soil to do well and plenty of space :)

I was in between jobs so I decided to give the acuba in the pot some tlc. I think it's the first time in all the years I've had it. I cut out the dead stalks. I cut off the damaged leaves. I sprinkled in a couple of hands full of bonemeal and topped off with some fresh compost. I then gave it a good soaking.

There is plenty of fresh shoots so the plant is in good health. There are a few berries dotted about too. All in all its looking pretty good.

I had a place earmarked for the future which meant a pot to reuse but it might make more sense to leave the plant and the pot where it is.

Done the vine weevil nematodes today and got some compost to plant some evergreen clematis. Put the ant powder on the allotment bed.

Was about to plant clematis and mega migraine struck so recovering in bed. Feel like a mental case.

I was going to tick the heart ( for friendly ) but didn't think the weevils or ants would agree:heehee:

Thanks @Loki  I don't mind ants usually but the red ones here are pure evil. The vine weevils can go to hell :snorky:

I've never had the red ones @Snorky85 but any are bad enough. I used to have a small border full of them, it wasn't much fun weeding :rolleyespink: As for the dreaded weevil ...... :runforhills:

Not sure I would put ant powder on allotment where edibles will be produced Snorky!!
Hope your migraine goes as quickly as it came.....not a migraine or headache sufferer but someone in the family suffers with it so I empathise
Again, the rain was forecast but didnt happen.....pleasant day and a tad warmer. :)

Mowed back and front yesterday and had a bit of clean up. Dried 3 lots on the line and also pinched my neighbours line to help out :heehee: in return I put up her new bird feeding station and give her some fat balls to put in.

Council have finished the retaining wall.. not really a good angle but it goes all along the boundary.

We've decided not to put the fence panels on top so my other half is building the wall higher. Ordered another 2 packs of blocks, sand and cement this morning for delivery tomorrow am. :yay:

I seen a post on a Facebook chicken page about free woodchip not too far from me. Bagged this lot this afternoon :yay: 2 trugs, 2 bags and a recycling bin full. Lady let me and my 2 little ones have a look at her chickens (and lazy spa as it came up in conversation..)

Stopped into Tesco cafe to pick up my weekly coffee grounds and made my way to pets at home.. oldest wants an endangered fish so I tried to change her mind :rolleyespink:

BNQ IS 2 units away so had a nosey and lo and behold the lazy spas were out on display.. no I didn't impulse! But kids are adamant they want one instead of the regular pool we put up.. had a nosey round the plants but was very, VERY restrained and came away with just a trusty orange bucket and a reduced citronella candle.. a nice cup of tea is calling me now

Back to winter again up here with strong winds and horizontal rain. I made a token effort in between the showers, which lasted all of about 10 minutes. Couldn't muster any real enthusiasm, so went to the beach instead :snorky:

@Linz , for hot tubs have you looked at the ones on offer at Lidl and Aldi , less than £300 :blue thumb:
Important to get your chlorination right on these things , otherwise itchy rashes can occur.
I don't do hot tubs , If I get in one all the kids start shouting "thar it blows" and throwing harpoons at me :snorky:

should be ok-its a separate raised bed and put it round the edge only and I'm going to be using it for my cut flowers only :)
