WHAT'S LOOKING GOOD IN APRIL 2018

Whats this one Tetters please, ive seen this today i was going to get a photo but it was awkward to stop the car it looks lovely.

 

Hi Martin - it`s Magnolia Stellata. I planted three of them in that patch and they`re always reliable

 

Thank you Tetters i will have to get two, it certainly stands out flowers and no leafs, ive just read up the leafs come after the flower, the one i noticed is white yours looks the pink one.

 

This is a white magnolia, but pale pink in bud as seems to be the case with quite a few white flowered shrubs. It is the one that likes chalky soil.

 

Really pleased with this azalea! It's the one i dug out the garden and nearly chucked out. Nearly 2 years later and its full of flowers!

Thanks @Sienna's Blossom , I thought the same - nice to have a bit of brightness. The fog seems to be getting worse here.

 

How did you manage the Fuschia @shiney

 

They do get large!

I agree - they're barely showing leaf around here.

The first Salvia of the year to bloom is Salvia coerulea..............

I agree I have seen a 'Stellata' in full bloom standing a minimum of 25ft and also taking up nearly as much in width, beautiful tree!

 

The Magnolia Stellata trees that I have here were from the nursery where I used to work. That was about 20 years ago. They therefore go on my ''slow growing'' list. I also planted a Davidia (handkerchief tree, or ghost tree) since then and that is known to be very slow growing, in fact when I planted it it was just a twig. Now it is taller than the Mag. stellata and has been sporting the wonderful handkerchief bracts that - quite honestly - I didn`t think I`d live to see......I`ll have to see if I can find a photo...
