I think they are possibly Willow herb shoots.

            Ah Yes. Next year.

I have now removed all the WEEDS. Mrs Outlander had a brainwave. She saw the same weeds growing outside Sainsburys so we brought one back and compared it.

I hope they didn't have any seed heads still attached, they're like dandelions and blow everywhere. :)

                  An update on this.

At the garden centre the other day we mentioned to a member of staff that the Osteospermums had not returned despite being labelled as hardy. She said it was due to the snow at the beginning of the year and gave us two new ones as replacements even though we no longer had the receipt. The new plants are not great but I shall plant them up anyway and see what happens next year.

A friend of mine who lives five minutes away also has them and they came back no problem.

The two most hardy osteos I think are Cannington Roy (pink) and Tresco Purple. Next is a white variety. They have all come through, despite the Beasts from the East.

Outlander, plant them in the driest, hottest parts of your garden and dont add manure or compost or even feed. Water well initially. Finally, take cuttings during the summer in pots of mpc and vermiculite and overwinter in the gh. :)

I think your friend prob has his plants in sunnier, freer draining spots

Yes I think you might be right there @Verdun. His are on a retaining wall of about four feet at the front of his house. I think the amount of sun is probably the same but drainage probably better.

Thanks for the advice though, will look for a better position before planting.
