Are they Water Vole burrows? I can remember they were around and were taken into account when the new fish pass was constructed at Palmer's Brewery some years ago.

I'm old enough to remember the days when they'd be munching away all day all around whilst sitting fishing on a riverbank, and also munching away loudly all night when sleeping in a tent pitched beside a waterway.

I would be tempted to get the metal detector out under the bridge Zigs.
