First though WO is flowers wilting under hot sun. Is your plant in the open and subjected to the heat of the sun, esp over the past week? Although a woodland plant I can grow them here in the open but they are sheltered from the sun by taller plants.....???
Slugs? Right now masses of those small (whatever type they are!) slugs are busy overnight feasting on all sorts of goodies without leaving slime trails. Maybe nip out with a torch tonight WO and see if they are there:)

Did the emerging shoots get caught in the last cold spell?

Hi @Verdun and thank you my friend I do believe it could be the hot sun,i shall try covering it with some shade to see if that makes any difference and I will go out tonight for a short flight and the torch won't be necessary as we owls can see in the dark, enjoy your day my friend:smile:

@wiseowl they are a fovourite of mine too and have had red and white for years, but last year both mine flowered like yours are and yet the plants themselves seemed fine.. This year basically nothing to be seen of either plant!! I am very sad, so I dug one up. The roots just seemed to have died back. No sign of weevils or anything else. Do they have a life span? I just don’t know anyone else any ideas.?

I love dicentra plants Woo. They do like a bit of shade. I brought mine here from my old north facing garden. They were in a pot and got plonked on a south facing patio when we moved in here. They weren't very happy at all. Some shade may make a difference to yours. :blue thumb:

probably the sun. all of mine are tucked under larger shrubs that case shadows over them. Last year happen on one that has the yellow /green leaves and white flowers, a pop of bright color in my shade garden. this will be its 3 year so expecting wonderments.

As you may, (or not), recall, I adore the bleeding heart plant - most especially "Alba" - only today I was astonished at how well my own plant is thriving! My plant (a gift from a friend :wub2:) I noticed today has shot up - to the point of near full flowering! It is in "deep shade" (defined as less than 3 hours of sunshine). This from nothing but a hint one week ago - the heat is certainly making it bold; just not direct sunlight! :blue thumb:

However, when it comes to "flowers" - my daffs have faired less well ... the reason being snails/slugs :th scifD36: Might this be the reason for your lack of flowers? :dunno:

Dicentra adores a shady position (as do slugs/snails) and, at this time of year, when fresh food is on the offing, they will grab any, and all, on offer! (Naughty molluscs :nonofinger: ).

Have you checked for vine weevil? In my experience, it is not common, but that doesn't mean it cannot happen. Have you given it a good mulch of organic matter? :dunno: Being a woodland plant it might benefit from some leaf mould if you have it?

At the end of the day: give it a good "Woo Talking To!" and remind it to pull its socks up ... :fingers crossed:
